Monolith
« on: April 25, 2012, 08:08:17 pm »
I am currently enjoying 'Grist' and all its semi-autobiographical references but am curious to know whether 'Monolith' is still making its way to publication - this was pitched some while back as the next book from Mr Grant. Can anyone shed any light on the shadow cast by the elusive monolith?

Mr. Staley has stated on here that the book was never finished, and although he has the manuscript so far, it will not be made available via publication.

Yes, it is the case that the novel was not completed. Shortly before his death, Kenneth expressed the wish that it should not be published, a wish that will naturally be honoured. The unfinished manuscript remains with the family.

Best wishes,

Michael.

Thank you for the confirmation - it is a shame it was not finished it sounded intriguing and his fiction got better and better over the years - Against the Light is such a wonderful book - I have read it so many times.
And so to Grist.

Yes, it is a shame. I consider Against the Light to have been Kenneth Grant's finest, deepest work, and Monolith was undertaken to develop some of its themes. None the less, those themes will be carried forward, simply because they have such a deep and penetrant resonance that will find further expression sooner or later.

I hope "Against the Light" will be reprinted soon as I never got to buy or read it first time around!

Yes, it will be republished. In the ideal scheme of things it would have been published between Beyond the Mauve Zone and The Ninth Arch, so that's where the republication will be slotted.

Best wishes,

Michael.
