Endpapers of Grist to Whose Mill

I love the endpapers to Grist which tell a story in themselves.

But I am curious to know what the large numbers denote on each day.
Are they astrological or some form of geomatria - could anyone shed any light on this mystery?

Most likely they are records of daily Oracles of some kind, perhaps I Ching hexagrams.

Ah - that makes sense as they do not exceed 64. Interesting !
