Thank you. Prices are right about market because of condition, which is near fine collector grade. Reasonable offers will be considered.

CORRECTION:

Kenneth Grant, “Outside the Circles of Time” Muller, 1980, 1st Edition, Signed Launch Copy, $299USD

It has come to our attention that while having been signed and dated by the author in the books inaugural year, along with several other copies, the suggestion that the book is a launch by a previous owner is speculative and no proven account of a book launch has come to light.

Sometimes, I blame the internet for the very high prices now asked for books. It never used to happen a few years ago, although it would sometimes take a while to find something, it would always be possible to eventually get what you wanted at a reasonable price. Memories....

Hopefully at least sometimes you blame the law of supply and demand for 'high prices'.A few years ago you couldn't find a copy of the Haydn Press version of "The Book of Lies" and there was one offered for only $130. I know this has been covered here before, but if you don't want to buy an offered book -  why clog up this site with your memories of the good old days when you coulda, shoulda woulda bought some title or other and gotten change back from your nickel. It is a 'very nice selection' of books offered at fair prices, maybe we should stop there.

So why continue to clog up this site responding to such comments? I spend a great deal on books already, but you seem to be suggesting that one should buy EVERY possible book, just in case that at some future point one should need it?

This may come as a surprise, but one's interests sometimes change over time. Next week , for example, one may become interested in some aspect of the occult that one has previously not been attracted to. The last few years has seem a massive increase in the amount of speculation going on in this area.

I would like to see some kind of occult 'postal library' established at which members would get access to ALL the books that they need for their studies. Of course, one would only be able to borrow 1 book at a time, and one would need to pay a sizeable deposit, but I think that would be a good solution to this current problem.....it might even stop all the book piracy going on.....or we can just have it your way...

The interwebs definitely has a dis-intermediating effect, allowing buyers & sellers to connect directly in a way undreamt of just a few years ago. However, this hasn't changed innate human behaviour, specifically the Endowment Effect, in which a seller overestimates the value of their property simply because they already own it. For example, I recently purchased a desired out-of-print tome for several times the original price. However it was still much less expensive (by an order of magnitude actually!) than those prices quoted by sellers at Amazon.  I also suspect some sellers price items extraordinarily high in the hopes that some desperate soul might actually be willing to pay the inflated price while tearing at their breast. While other, more loveable, more intelligent, and better looking booksellers (such as 666tsaeb) will seek to complete a number of actual sales.

here is a clever description of the Endowment Effect

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Ahhh..the fine art of salesmanship! In the past year I have overpaid for books to a truly painful extent, trying to fill the holes in a small book collection. The onslaught never ends.
It always takes me back to something a used car salesman told me twenty some years ago,"there is an ass for every seat."

And to think Bill Gates bought a stinkin' little notebook in terrible condition called Leonardo da Vinci's Codex for $30.8 million.

I felt bad not buying Jimmy's book Zoso while in print for $1200. It sold out almost instantly and now lists for double that,
if you can find one:

As an example:
I would think one can justify buying a 40 year old book,
written by Aleister Crowley, published by Kenneth Anger and in top pristine condition for $180:

At any rate, I can add an extra cushion to your seat at no extra charge...

very nice pics - I think this quote from AC rather apt:-

"It then suddenly burst upon me that this [is] the real reason why Tahuti (Thoth) is the inventor of language, reading & writing, is properly identified as The Devil, defining that person as the enemy of mankind. For without him the human mind would have been forced to develop on true evolutionary principles by creating for itself living faculties to do the work which writing pretends to do & cannot do because it is dead."
Tunis 3 June 1923

I recently purchased a desired out-of-print tome for several times the original price. However it was still much less expensive (by an order of magnitude actually!) than those prices quoted by sellers at Amazon.

I blame two things for those incredible Amazon prizes, the first being the auto pricing feature which apparently many Amazon sellers make use of. From what I understand, it sets the price according to how available the title is, which results in often completely ridiculous prices. I've seen books priced in the higher hundreds which are still available at the original retail price through different websites (such as the publisher or author's direct site).

The second would be some sellers who list very high with the intent to increase the general pricing average that other sellers refer to, which then drives up the value of the title. Although this wouldn't work with common titles, it can have an effect on very rare books where there aren't many available listings out there.
