Talk on THE NINTH GATE - Next Week

(1/2) > >>

Satan'sAdvocaat:
Greetings All.

I'd like to take the liberty of drawing the following to your attention.  It might be of interest to anyone living in the Sheffield, South Yorkshire area with nothing better to do on a Tuesday evening.

Not Aleister Crowley focused, I do appreciate that, but I intend to draw some parallels between 'The Ninth Gate' and Kenneth Grant's 'The Ninth Arch', including one or two recent insights; and of course there is that wonderful engraving of the Whore of Revelations sitting astride the seven-headed Dragon, so Atu XI is sure to get at least an honourable mention.

Talk:                        ‘The Ninth Gate’, Occult Themes                           Steven Dziklewicz

In this talk Steven will examine Occult Themes in Roman Polanski's 1999 film "The Ninth Gate" and the original novel on which it is based.  (Arturo Pérez-Reverte's  novel ‘The Club Dumas’ 1993).
Polanski described his film as "an adult fairy story” but it is a streamlined version of the original novel, making it a more coherently occult and supernatural journey.  The film’s main protagonist (Johnny Depp) becomes caught up in a relentless journey of initiation by following nine illustrations in a grimoire.  The talk will deal with the illustrations which play a key role in the film with more information on their occult significance as given in the novel.  It will then go on to draw parallels with other quests and traditions.
For those who haven’t seen the film, this talk will also focus on the potential power and fascination of magical books and the obsessions which they can engender. I am attaching two documents which might help with your understanding on the night.  You can also checkout the story line and images on the web.   Try:

Sounds interesting, you should come down to London to give your talk; I'm sure either Treadwells or Atlantis would be happy to provide a venue.

darkflame:
The similarity between Kenneth Grant and Johnny Depp in those two photos is actually quite unnerving!
