Motta's Magick Without Tears, Part 2
« on: July 27, 2012, 11:21:38 pm »
I am looking for a copy of the second volume of Motta's version of Crowley's Magick Without Tears.     If you have a copy in decent shape at a reasonable price, please contact me.

As a matter of interest, is there much difference between the version published by Germer and that published by Motta?

There is little difference but I would like to complete my set and the Germer edition is often outrageously priced.    Weiser recently had a copy of Germer's edition at a decent price which went quickly, but the few copies currently available are priced for fools.

Thanks, Robert. I was very interested in your post because before reading it I hadn't known that there was a Motta edition. I have thought from time to time about acquiring the Germer edition, but as you say it is usually very expensive when copies do appear on the market.

Was amused at the way my browser cut the right-hand margin of the MWT announcement.

The biggest difference between 'em is Motta's comments on the sections deleted by Israel Regardie, and Motta's own chapter Intelligence Services Are Not Intelligent. These are quite funny. Motta's successor has put Motta's version out on the Internet. Search Magick Without Tears Unexpurgated.

Harder to find Vol. II., The Editions that were sold after the Lawsuit often have a blank paste-over over the "O.T.O." on the front cover. Ridiculously overpriced in the Second-Seller market, as are all of Motta's books, and now that the Ira Craddock material has been published elsewhere, ultimately dispensable.

Why would the publication of material by Ira Craddock make the Motta material - whether it's his edition of Magick without Tears, or anything else - "ultimately dispensable"? I don't see the connection.

Yes, there is likely a connection with that same old can o' worms, Azidonis. I've chewed on a few morsels from that can myself over the years.  However, I still don't see why the publication of the Ira Craddock material should make the Motta corpus "ultimately dispensable".

Seriously, Walterfive, where's the connection?

My intent was to provide the contents and manner by which the books were edited for those lacking them and considering their purchase. The worms can do their will without my help.

I was merely pointing out that the statement, which is packed full of claims (true or false), is a can o'worms. Said statement, among others, have been a cause for the various factions that have cropped up over the years.

Your intent was not my concern when making the post.

That point is rather lost on me, as the OTO holds absolutely no interest whatsoever; so it's best of luck to them and their supporters. Nice corporate logo though.
