The central question for our time is not how you worship God, or even whether you worship God. It's whether you believe in this life you can be in possession of the absolute truth and you have the right to impose it on others - and therefore whether your differences are more important than our common humanity. That's the values crisis.

The Magic Seal of John Dee
The Sigillum Dei Aemeth
by
Colin D Campbell
Published by The Teitan Press.
First Edition - Limited to 777 Numbered Copies.
Hardcover, small quarto (8 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches, approx 22.2 x 17.2cm). Black cloth with gilt sigils stamped on the front & rear covers, blind rules, and gilt title etc. on the spine. Color frontispiece and one colour & one black and white plate. Various b&w illustrations and tables in text. Appendixes & index. Teitan Press, Maine, 2009 / 2010. Edition limited to 777 numbered copies.
The Magic Seal of John Dee comprises a detailed examination of the history and structure of the Sigillum Dei Aemeth of the Elizabethan scholar and Magus, Dr. John Dee, as well as a study of its use in the practice of ritual magic. The appendixes include a new transcription and translation of Dee's Liber Mysteriorum Secundus, and an important new translation of the section of the famous grimoire, The Sworn Book of Honorius, that gives details of what is clearly a precursor of the Sigillum Dei.
From the standpoint of a practicing magician, the work has two clear aims: "to demonstrate the importance of the pattern established by Dee's Sigillum Dei as opposed to its implementation, and to bring the Sigillum Dei out of the limited confines of the Enochian temple and into its role as a powerful magickal system in its own right. The recognition of the patterns established in the construction of the Sigillum Dei allow us to view the seal in a new light, not as a static framework decided once and for all hundreds of years ago in the study of a Rennaissance magician, but as one that can be reconstituted in the light of modern interpretation. Furthermore, the seal is, in essence, a system of evocation - the very same method of communication used by Dee & Kelley in its reception. This book explains the nature and method of this approach and how the practicing magician is able to use the Sigillum Dei in the manner in which it was truly intended - as a powerful system of planetary magick."
The author, Colin D. Campbell, is a member of the O.T.O. and long-term student and teacher of the Thelemic, Kabbalistic, and Enochian magickal systems.

93,
I had a priviledge to attend Colin's lecture on Sigilum Dei Aemeth at last NOTOCON in Seattle and I must say the material he presented is mind blowing! It's worth of noticing he also edited and wrote an introduction to another very important book, A Concordance to the Holy Books of Thelema. Congratulations to the Author and all at Teitan/Weiser!

93,
I also attended Colin's lecture on this material in Seattle, and came away with my head filled to capacoty with new ideas regarding the inherent possibilities in working with the Sigillum Dei. I cannot wait to get my hands on this new release. Bravo once again to the Teitan Press!

Ordered a copy as soon as I saw it advertised. And as always the most pleasant and polite confirmation and replies from Weiser Antiquarian Books. Always enjoy buying from them. And I suspect this book will be an interesting addition to the details in LMD's 'Enochian vision magick'

I just received my copy today: what a handsome volume! Can't wait to get started on it. It's beautifully produced; a lovely, solid book to hold in the hands, and it looks like it will be a pleasure to read.
Hats off to Weiser for their great customer service too. The book arrived in the UK in less than a week from the US, and was very well packed.

I received my copy this morning, and now having had a chance to digest it, I find myself left with the conclusion that Campbell has done a pretty good job of analysing the Seal of God; however, there are a couple of serious criticisms that could be made of his principal "correction", to wit: why not reverse the reading of the Sons of Light instead of the Daughters (that would provide an arguably better resolution)? and why not mention that the allegedly incorrect names of these spirits are seen by Kelley in his visions, not merely theorized in the Sevenfold Table, thus suggesting quite strongly that no correction is required (he sort of skirts around this point)?
There are a few other points I could make (e.g., the section on the other items of temple equipment is lacking in a couple of respects), but although I don't agree with a lot of it, nevertheless the research does actually seem to have been based on transcripts of the originals (rather than being cribbed from another writer, as in a recent case I could mention by a well-known occultist), and the author has generally done his homework on all the questions arising; but perhaps more importantly, he's done so clearly because he wants to know the answers for his own practical work, rather than because he wants to make a name for himself, which is frankly rather refreshing.
Overall: 'A' for effort, but I can only give a 'C+' for accuracy/usefulness, because although it's well-intentioned I think it's also misguided.

93 all.
Thanks for the overwhelmingly positive response to Colin's book, which is the fastest selling Teitan Press title yet. Obviously Colin's ideas have set off a spark amongst those who have heard him speak. FYI, we just received the following comment on it, unbidden, from Stephen Skinner: "I have now finished reading the book. A few minor niggles, but this book is a significant contribution to the understanding of Dee's magic, carefully researched. I wish such attention to detail, and underlying Kabbalistic patterns related back to original sources had been applied to the rest of Dee's work, or indeed to magic in general."

I've received this book yesterday. A beautiful book indeed.
The Enochian system is a basic piece of Thelema (see "The Vision and the Voice") and can be a frightening system to learn with all its components.
Having received this book and being it so beautiful I couldn't resist to start reading it, and to my surprise it is an accessible book to follow and better understand Enochian Magick with a very solid base. Being in the Lashtal site and if you want to have a deeper understanding of Thelema you can't ignore the Angelical Language.
If you want to have a basic knowledge of what this system is all about this is an excellent book with a pleasant introduction by Dr. Richard Kaczynski.
