Post subject: Graham Bond
Hello all. I am wandering if there is anybody who has any information or leads on Graham Bond's occult interest. I have only currently come across his name conjunctively but further internet trawls seem to be vague on this matter and have lead to a dead end. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

I can't answer that myself, but can offer this as one of the great man's more occult (i.e. obscure) moments. It is a veritable national treasure, preserved forever (maybe) on YouTube.

His albums have recently been re-released on CD. I got Holy Magick . Not really my cup of tea musically, but interesting nevertheless.

93! On John McGlaughlins website, there's a timeline of his influences. He mentions that while with the Graham Bond band he was turned on to the Tarot... 93, 93/93.

Don't know if it's still in print, but Harry Shapiro's biography "Graham Bond: the Mighty Shadow" (my copy: Guinness Publishing, 1992) is a very comprehensive account of Bond's musical and magickal activities.
Obviously a very charismatic and influential bloke if rather flawed in some areas. He claimed to be Crowley's illegitimate son, but there doesn't seem to be much evidence for this, IIRC.
Musically speaking, as BlueKephra says, Holy Magick is not really my thing either - but a good snapshot of the times, easy to imagine people at UFO in the late 60s looning to these far-out sounds. Personally I prefer his earlier more blues-oriented stuff (e.g. the albums The Sound of '65, and There's a Bond Between Us), but each to their own! Try 'em, they're still available quite cheaply via the usual online outlets.
PS Shapiro's book has lots of photos, one captioned "Some of Graham's 'magickal' writings", including his "self-adopted 'magickal' name", Lashtal...

Hehe, that YouTube clip led me on a little trip down memory lane - to John McGlaughlin and the original Mahavishnu Orchestra with Jack Bruce, Billy Cobham, Jan Hammer and Jerry Goodman. One of the best "fusion" bands ever - actually, fuck it, THE best "fusion" band ever.

The bass player for Mahavishnu was 'Rick Laird'. McGlaughlin played with Jack Bruce in Tony Williams 'Lifetime'. 93's
