Magick - Typhonian entries in Thelemapedia hawthornrussell - Apr 14, 2006 - 05:41 PM Post subject: Typhonian entries in Thelemapedia
After Lashtal's enthusisasm for the website Thelemapedia, i thought i would do a quick glance over the postings for Typhonian stuff.
And what i found was a lack of quality info on Mr Grant , the Typhonian Ordo Templi Orientis, and the philosophies involved in the group. I am keeping an open mind about this.
If there are members on the forum who would consider themselves "Typhonian" or have sympathies in that direction , then the entries in Thelemapedia concerning anything Typhonian needs your input , your information , and editing.
(The only thing that annoyed me was that Kenneth Grant's post on Thelemapedia was "threadbare" compared to the guy from the band Coil who got substantial coverage. In my opinion it just seems .....unbalanced.)lashtal - Apr 14, 2006 - 08:49 PM Post subject: Typhonian entries in Thelemapedia

My enthusiasm was rather less equivocal when Thelemapedia was a livelier, regularly updated piece of work. This sort of thing really would benefit from following LAShTAL.COM's non-partisan lead, too...
There remains much of interest and value on the site, though.

I thought their description of the Typhonian OTO as a Kenneth Grant fan club was just plain stupid. Its obvious from the large number of posting relating to Mr Grant and his ideas that there is a lot of interest in Typhonian ideas.
The whole Thelemapedia seems to be written with a bias, which fortunately doe not exist on Lashtal.
So thanks again to Paul.

I note that Thelemapedia's article is derived from the one on Wikipedia, and that the Free Encyclopedia of Thelema presents the same information and opinion.
There's no reason why any or all of these three articles shouldn't be updated and expanded, of course, by anyone with a detailed understanding of the facts.

I think you have to have some kind of permission to update the info Paul. It seems to have become a closed site with only certain approved people being allowed to contribute.
This is a shame because it could be a useful resource if it was less sectarian.

Actually, Robert, I think you might be right. When I registered as a Thelemapedia editor things were straightforward and complied with the site's own guidelines: "<em>If you would like to add to the encyclopedia, you are welcome to become an editor, where you will be able to start and edit articles. We are an OTO-friendly site </em>(sic!)<em>, but we encourage any Thelemite to join who is interested in this project.</em>"
Now I see that registration requires that you "apply to become an editor", rather than the usual Wiki-style registration. You also need to supply:
<em>1) Full civil name (i.e. the name on your driver's license)
2) Desired Username
3) Working email address (this is necessary to get your password)
4) City, State, and Country where you reside
5) An example of writing, preferably online (such as a blog, personal website, or online publication)
6) A brief description of how you think you might contribute to Thelemapedia</em>
Crikey!
And: <em>"Thelemapedia reserves the right to deny or accept any person for membership for any reason and at any time, without the need for explanation." </em>
It doesn't seem terribly inclusive, does it?
And it compares rather poorly with Wikipedia's openness: "The volunteer authors of articles in Wikipedia don't have to be experts or scholars (though some certainly are). They can be anyone, including you! Volunteers do not need to go through any formal process before creating an article or editing an existing article."frater_cug - Apr 15, 2006 - 04:01 PM Post subject:
I guess It's my turn.
The reason that registration is required was some users were posting degree material, and the (unfortunate all too common) typical OTO wars stuff. Now as Thelemapedia is a project of the Scarlet Woman Lodge I would of thought it would be common sense that they would not like that stuff posted there. I mean DUH!
As for the current state of Thelemapeda..
The stuff posted above seems to have caused many members of the OTO not to want to post on a site that seemed critical to their group. And as I understand when I ended up by default the head steward my lack of membership also causes some strife.
The registration rules have made it so where non members seem to think their help is not wanted so they no longer contribute.
