Post subject: Crowley painting from Vol. III Equinox frontispiece  PostPosted: Aug 19, 2007 - 09:43 PM

I am looking for a link to where I can view an image of a painting by Crowley. It was used as the frontispiece of Vol. III, of his magazine The Equinox. In the background of the painting is portrayed an ecstatic woman dancer; in the foreground stands a dead tree, from a branch of which a corpse is suspended by the neck. From behind the tree peers a grinning nature spirit. The spirit has been given the features of C.G. Jones.

Thank you

You'll find a jpeg of it in one of the Galleries of Crowley artwork on this site, I think.

Thanks, that is the one.....I was curious about the symbology in it. Maybe someone could be kind enough to go into some detail on what Crowley was representing in this painting...?

Thanks. Btw, the name of the painting is "maymorn"? Or is that just the file name?

looks a lot like my front yard, the morning after Beltane this year. I don't remember the dead guy though... but there was somebody who was kinda *mostly* dead.....

Just as an aside to the above, & my apologies for the repeat posting: there are TWO versions of this image.
The above version strikes me as authentic for stylistic reasons, both other versions reproduced in the Old Master exhibition catalogue appears to be a pastiche. Your thoughts on this?

Read my response to your other post - asking the same question on multiple threads doesn't help...
