Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Hello DarkPoet.
”Beast: Aleister Crowley, a Passion for Evil”…..
rather than something like-----------a Passion for Life!
or, even better “Passion Incarnate” for instance?
Now if it’s to attract play-goers---luring them in through use of the “wickedest Man in the World”
thing, ----I can understand----considering that such is, an attracting item for some folk.
And, I begrudgingly admit, that “Passion for Evil”---has a more dynamically flavored ring to it, etc---etc.
So before I am challenged for “nit-picking”
Good luck with your play!
And I promise,
that should I ever find my way to see your play, I will not engage in any form of heckling the moment you announce it’s title---by standing up in the audience and saying : You mean a Passion for Light, Life, Love, and Liberty, don’t you?
Love is the law, love under will.

Hi,
I thought the title a 'crowd puller' also.
As for content.... Anyone willing, and able, to write a review?
Pleasantries. |

I echo the earlier posts. Without decrying your play perhaps you should give us a synopsis of the content.
To be honest the references to a passion for evil seem to be aimed at those looking for a sensationalist work. (Perhaps echoed in the fact you only have 4 posts here so far)
Might be an idea to give more info. Im almost tempted to make the journey and heckle if required

Hello,
Okay, okay I’ll come clean. The title is definitely designed to sell tickets after all there is no point in producing a play if no one comes to see it. Our original intention was to put the show on at the Edinburgh Fringe, although I’m not sure if we’ll be able to raise the funds for this year, so the title is designed to get us attention in that setting.
What I have tried to do in the play is to put forward as honest a portrayal of Crowley as I can although it’s very difficult to distil the life of such a remarkable and complex man into 50 mins. I don’t want to post a synopsis on here as at least 50% of the play is how it is performed and not what is written. Basically, in the play, Crowley looks back over some of the significant events in his life a re-lives some of them. For example the death of his father, his childhood as a Plymouth Brethren, the writing of The Book of Law and the establishment of the Abbey etc.
In discussing Crowley with people who know little about him, and that is most people, he is frequently dismissed as a charlatan or a lunatic. I am sure most folk on this site will agree that he was neither. I wanted to write something that would at least convey the fact that he is someone whose ideas should be taken seriously. I accept that the title is sensationalist and is designed to put “bums on seats” but the play, I would hope, gives a more balanced view. It’s interesting, however, that many people seem to be happy to condemn the play, and me for writing it, when they have never seen it.
For those of you who would like to see the show we are hoping to tour it and possibly take it to some festivals. The Eden Court show is a way of work shopping it and we will certainly be going for a major re-write in the next couple of months, trying to refine the show.
If you want to come and heckle, feel free, although I think you’ll be drowned out by the Christians baying for my blood.

Hi
I dont think anyone was condeming your play without seeing it....rather the notion of the sensationalist and tired title of it seems to have done that.
Thanks for the short description of the play and your aims. It would appear your aim is to challenge the stereotype of AC as a charlatan, lunatic, etc (the list goes on) which i hope is achieved.
However, since the title of it, based on the responses, appears to be a tirn off to serious Crowley students/followers/the rest i would imagine the audiences you will get will be hoping for blood sacrifices, orgies and lots of sex. From the sounds of it everyone will be disapointed.
Seriously not having a go at you and do wish you well with the play (if its in an area near me i am sure i will seek it out....and will keep the Xtians at bay). I guess i am just tired of the lazy AC references in ALL media these days. The enlightenment does seem very far off indeed.
Best Wishes
Doug |

I'm toying with the notion of hiring a hall- in a city, the western sector of London, close to M4, tube,
is most logical. Perhaps around Crowleymass would be appropriate; A Lashtalian/Thelemite only affair?-restriction for the Greater good. A Ritual, Elixer, a talk, a smoke, The Mass, a boosting natural sacrament, a play, music and the calls of the 30 AEthyrs, another sacremental smoke 'til eleven!?
An idea; one of several I hope to implement this year. Realistic, if response is.
Times are changing-we've even experienced some fundamentalist restriction!:-...'Wickepedia'.
Too late! No more, the days of harassment at Stonehenge, when 2,000 Magicians asserted their right to worship, meet again. Now, the net.-Lashtal!
Let's exercise this new found freedom!
I would like to offer My sincere thanks to ' 'Captain' Paul, of The Good Ship Lashtal; for His tireless forging of The steel, to safely navigating through areas uncharted, unforeseen. I could say much more-Tremendous work Paul, a landmark, set to continue.
More power to your elbow, Lashtal, and much merriment to All who sail in Her!

Meanwhile, in the world of Assiah,
In reality; any such event would be meticulously planned, timed, and, entirely legal.
Legal, exotic items, e.g a special Thelemic incense preparation; with instruction,
will be available. Donations, optional, to go toward the continuance of this site.
Nearer the time, offers to give talks, perform Ritual etc., will be gratefully recieved,
and hopefully integrated, into The Gathering.
This may lead to bi-annual, even quarterly events.
Time will tell.
Onward and Upward! |

Hello,
I'm considering bring my play to London in early September. Possibly to a small intimate theatre like the Canal theatre, seats 60. Possibly do a 3 day run.
Do people think there would besufficient interest? |
