Apologies if this the wrong forum for this but it seemed most appropriate.

Just downloaded the article found here: http://www.franz-renggli.ch/en/artikel.html
on 'The Sunrise As The Birth Of A Baby' which treats the Egyptian 'Book of the Earth' as an account of prenatal experience. I am thinking that this could mesh with some interpretations of (much) later Alchemical texts.

The whole piece is subtitled as being "In Deference to the Dutch Historian of Religion, Bruno Hugo Stricker" who I had not heard of before. It seems that he only writes in Dutch but it sounds fascinating. Of possible particular interest here would be De Geboorte van Horus a 5 volume, 770 page study of the Birth of Horus (with apparently 8,500 footnotes... Shocked ).

Googling Stricker to see if there was anything in English I could look at led me to find an anthology edited by Terence DuQuesne. DuQuesne is someone I'm definitely going to follow up. His paper in the anthology (Hermes Aegyptiacus. Egyptological studies for Bruno Hugo Stricker on his 85th birthday - 1995) is entitled 'Raising the Serpent Power:some parallels between Egyptian religion and Indian tantra' which seems very promising.

A brief search showed other titles by DuQuesne as follows:
'Jackal at the Shaman`s Gate. A study of Anubis Lord of Ro-Setawe with the conjuration to chthonic deities',
'At the court of Osiris. Book of the Dead Spell 194',
'Anubis and the Spirits of the West',
'The Jackal Divinities of Egypt: From the Archaic Period to Dynasty X'.
All of these seem well worth a look, though unfortunately they are all either out of print and very expensive or just very expensive. Think I'll make a special trip to the copyright library and take a look.

Hope this is of some interest to others here.

edit : Further digging suggests that it is the same Terence DuQuesne who wrote an essay in the 1990 Mandrake publication of 'The Rites of Eleusis'. Nice to know it really is such a small world.

Many thanks amadan-De.

A superb find, and some very interesting articles I will find very useful myself. I look forward to discussing this material in my private practice with one of my psychotherapists that works there.

Best Wishes

Charles

A pleasure to be of service, magispiegel! We aim to please.

I have just found out that Oxbow books - http://www.oxbowbooks.com/ - are selling the 'Hermes Aegyptiacus' volume, with the DuQuesne article on 'Raising the Serpent Power' at 75% off (less than £10). Just go to the website, choose US or UK pricing etc. and then put DuQuesne in the site search box. They also have 'The Jackal Divinities of Egypt' but for a fair bit more...
Too many books too little time.

Disclaimer:I have no connection with Oxbow books other than as a customer Smile
