You call them 'thelemic death metal'. Is that term synonymous with 'blackened death metal'?
Their Wikipedia page says:
"The first result of this new collaboration was the successful album Satanica, on which the black metal sound had evolved into blackened death metal."
This also adds to the confusion - are they thelemites that worship Satan? They seem to have quite an interest in Christian themes as well - acknowledging a Christ figure and a Hell. Very confusing. And why do they consistently spell 'of' as 'ov'?
I'd ask the singer for clarification directly but I have a hard time understanding anything he says.
John (track 18 sounds very uplifting) |

Well behemoth is mainly death metal band (ex black metal band), they are thelemic death metal because they are thelemites and they use thelemic lyrics and symbols.
Worship satan, christ? Is a telemite invoking thoth a thoth worshiper?? In some way it may be..
If you have any questions ask the singer/songwriter (Nergal) he is always open for questions.
song 18 is cover song |

Behemoth also made the album Zos Kia Cultus, on which an odour of Spareiness prevails throughout. It's very melodic for something categorized as Black or Death Metal.
Their lyricist, Kryzstov, is I believe renowned as something of a Thelemic fundamentalist, and as a supporter of the Grantian orthodoxy regarding Austin Spare.

There's a "Grantian orthodoxy" regarding Spare? |

When we met I just found him to be an urbane, witty and friendly chap, although I confess I'm not entirely sure what a "Thelemic fundamentalist" would look like, so it's always possible that you're right.

first post in here - YAY!
well at the end it was this band called BEHEMOTH bringing me to this forum.
I dealt with Thelama and Crowley when I was teenager and then lost this path again... since I got attracted - and by the way a HUGE fan - of this band I digged more and more into their lyrics and did research about the contents. And about 90% I found the answers on websites about Thelama/Crowley. Thus I got back to this path of Thelema and Crowley I once lost. And while browsing around the web I often came across this forum - tonight finally registered
-> I would call this band a Blackened Death Metal band with lyrics referring to Thelema - and btw. "blackened" in this case has nothing to to with "satanic lyrics"... it is just referring to the genre of the music which is a mixture of Death Metal with influences from Black Metal |
