First let me say sorry if this question as been asked already i tried looking for it around the forums and couldn't find but that is not to say that it hasn't been asked already and i may have just missed it.
I was watching the films of Kenneth Anger Vol 2 DVD today with the commentary on and he had mentioned in Lucifer Rising that Crowley preferred his books to be bound in white (and i know i am spelling this wrong) velomse. I was wondering one is this true? and two why this style of book is hard to find or if there easy were can you get them? Also if this is the preferred style of Crowley why aren't more of his books offered in this style.
I am have only looked on the internet as many books shops in my area have a limited selection of Crowley books. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

The word you are looking for is VELLUM. That should help you look it up. It is sometimes called parchment, is made from specially treated sheepskin, is expensive, extremely durable and unless dyed another colour is white.

Hi, Anger certainly had Crowley's "Collected Works" 3 vols vellum bound traveller's edition [ as shown; Bibliographica Thelemica ID 276 ]. Although when the books were shown by Anger to an interviewer from 'Time Out' in 1985, who was publicising his "Hollywood Babylon 2" we were told the books were bound in human skin. I assume Anger was having a bit of a joke with his interviewer.
As we know A. C. had his own copies of many of his works specially bound to his own requirements, but I don't think he ever resorted to human skin, as it was almost unheard of as a material for book-binding. Although Leonard Smithers the publisher of "Aceldama" & " White Stains" describes at least one such binding in his 'Catalogue of Rare Books'. A copy of "The Imitation of Christ" under the heading; 'A Gruesome Curiosity' & described it thus;' - most tastefully and appropriately bound in human skin, emblematically blind-tooled with Death's Heads, Cross-bones and Hour Glasses - '
Incidentally if anyone out there has a 'Collected Works' vol 2, 1906 & or vol 3, 1907 in vellum they with to dispose of, I would be interested.

I suspect that confusion may have arisen between books originally issued in vellum - such as the Collected Works - and books that Anger had bound up in vellum. I know that Anger had a number of his Crowley books rebound in white vellum by Sangorski & Sutcliffe in London. For example I once saw what had been Anger's set of The Equinox - all of which had been rebound in white vellum.
Widening the topic slightly, did anyone else flinch in horror when they saw the scene in one of Anger's films where a dust-jacketed copy of Moonchild is carelessly thrown to the floor?

| invocation of my demon brother i believe was the movie that it was from but i was not shocked at all given the movie and the soundtrack and as Anger said in the commentary there was a barrage of strange drugs and happenings going on when he made that movie. |
