Was reviewing diaries for a number of reasons and came across the following entry which I thought I would share here. I just cannot imagine this attitude prevailing nowadays but what do others think?
13/08/79 "T was talking to X on the phone earlier and X said that Thelema will turn anyone into a lunatic"
I should mention that without naming the person, X was a senior figure in an English order at that time.

LOL-Yes, Thelema drives everyone mad! Perfectly rational people start studying some piece of writing supposedly dictated by a Praeter Natural Intelligence delivered in privacy to a sadistic Englishman, begin assuming odd new names, write "93" instead "Best" and begin to direct their energies to fusion with some sort of "Angel" thing that is supposed to help them endure an "Ordeal of the Abyss." Instead of using pens on paper to process quotidian quanta like good productive machines, they stand alone in bedrooms and bathrooms tracing imaginary stars and somehow completely turn upside down that mainstream religion that has served us all so well during the last 2000 years of disgusting abuse to our fellow human beings...they adore a slut and monster, believe that everyone is a STAR (not just the bodies in bathing suits splattered on tabloid rags)...PLUS (if robes and stars and Hebrew nick names are pallatable) they think Osiris is no longer in the East!
They are insane!!!
Seriously, though. I just picked up Aleister Crowley and the Practice of the Magickal Diary-opening to the first page, we read:
"Adonai is that thought which informs and strengthens and purifies, supreme sanity in supreme genius. Anything that is not that is not Adonai."
I LOVE that quote! "Supreme sanity in supreme genius." How else does one obtain this state of GOING but by BECOMING WILL???
If Thelema makes madmen of us all, what would X offer as the Path to Supreme Sanity???
I think we can judge imbalance and lunacy in proximity to WILL.
But I'd still be curious as to how X would answer.
Then again, maybe not.
