The central question for our time is not how you worship God, or even whether you worship God. It's whether you believe in this life you can be in possession of the absolute truth and you have the right to impose it on others - and therefore whether your differences are more important than our common humanity. That's the values crisis.

The portrait of Crowley by Xul Solar...

This is one of the reasons I LOVE this website! Never heard of Xul Solar until this morning when his image came up on the site...and it is WONDERFUL!!!

I love Paul Klee (mentioned as one of the Secret Society in Hermann Hesse's Journey to the East) and I recently discovered the incredible work of A R Penck. Solar's work seems to run right along with this energy, off kilter-geometric hieroglyphic wonder...

I've no further comments as I need to explore Xul Solar MUCH further...but as an artist I take GREAT inspiration when I run into someone who is embodying this sort of energy!

Thanks so much to whosover got this image up on the site!

A great day to all!

Kyle

Can someone show me how to go about finding the picture, by chance? I've done a search for it on this site, and can find it nowhere. It'd be wonderful to have a look!

We had an exhibition of Xul Solar's work here at the Houston Museum of Art last year, it included a number of books from his library, including several 1st Ed. Crowley books (DROOL!)

He was a pretty amazing artist. I was quite intrigued by his variations in the 1950s on the Tree of Life with 12 Sephiroth. Does anyone know if he ever wrote about this Qabbalist modification?

I'd be intrigued to know where on this site you looked! It's one of the 57 portraits of Aleister Crowley in the Galleries here, in the album called, er, 'Portraits Of Aleister Crowley'.
