| Weiser Antiquarian Books Catalog # 48 |
Posted by lashtal on in 7° : in 21° : dies : Anno IVxvi |
Not sure how I missed this one, but, a few days late, here's information about the latest catalogue from Weiser Antiquarian Books...
Books by and About: Andrew Chumbley and the Cultus Sabbati & Kenneth Grant and the Typhonian O.T.O.
Welcome to this, the forty-eighth of our on-line catalogs. The catalog is divided into two sections, the first of which comprises a selection of books by Andrew Chumbley (1967-2004), and his friend and current Magister of the Cultus Sabbati, and "Verdelet of the Tradition," Daniel A. Schulke. The second section contains an interesting group of books by and relating to Kenneth Grant and his Typhonian O.T.O.
The works of Andrew Chumbley offered include two different issues of his famous Azoëtia. A Grimoire of the Sabbatic Craft, one of which is the rare special edition limited to 44 numbered copies which includes a talismanic card, part printed and part hand-drawn by Andrew Chumbley, as well as a mint copy (with talismanic bookmark) of his Qutub, and a copy of his most sort-after work, One. The Grimoire of the Golden Toad. Those by Daniel A. Schulke comprise three different issues of his Viridarium Umbris. The Pleasure Garden of Shadows, including the seldom-seen edition de luxe (limited to 72 numbered copies) of the First Edition, as well as his recently released released reissue of the Ars Philtron.
Amongst the books by Kenneth Grant are a good selection of the signed, limited editions of a number of his Starfire publications: At the Feet of the Guru, Twenty-Five Essays, Beyond the Mauve Zone, Convolvulus and other Poems, Gamaliel: The Diary of a Vampire and Dance, Doll, Dance!, The Ninth Arch, and The Other Child and Other Tales. There are also two original copies of numbers of the Carfax Monographs, as well as the later Skoob and Fulgur reprints of the series, and a small selection of copies of the now-scarce Starfire journal, most of which are in near-mint condition.

| 007 and 666: A True Tale of Spies and Sorcery |
Posted by lashtal on in 27° : in 15° : dies : Anno IVxvi |
LAShTAL.COM is proud to publish a lengthy article by Micah A Hanks regarding Ian Fleming and Aleister Crowley, 007 and 666: A True Tale of Spies and Sorcery
This fascinating essay - reproduced by kind permission of the author -covers similar ground to the research by Richard Spence as presented in Secret Agent 666.
Micah describes the article in Nick Redfern's "Strangest Secrets" blog as: "A while back, I had begun working on an article that dealt with some of the more extraordinary (and in some cases, even paranormal) aspects of James Bond creator Ian Fleming’s career with British Intelligence Services during World War II. As most who have read the novels or studied James Bond’s history otherwise may know, many of Fleming’s experiences in real life later inspired the adventures of the world’s most famous secret agent. The article, however, was never published; therefore, I felt it was perhaps a good time, along with the release of Quantum of Solace in theaters, to present for the first time my original tribute to the 007’s classy creator. As the name implies, 007 and 666: A True Tale of Spies and Sorcery, is indeed based on real events that lead to the capture of the infamous Nazi Rudolph Hess. With a cast of characters that includes Maxwell Knight (then Fleming’s superior officer in MI5), the notorious Aleister Crowley, and Fleming himself, it is by far one of the oddest tales ever to stem from the annals of history."

| New: Aleister Crowley Catalogue from Weiser Antiquarian |
Posted by lashtal on in 18° : in 15° : dies : Anno IVxvi |
Wonderful stuff, as ever, in the latest catalogue from Weiser Antiquarian!
Aleister Crowley, his friends & Associates:
A Miscellany of Used and Rare Books
may now be viewed at:
www.weiserantiquarian.com/catalog
Weiser Antiquarian Books is pleased to announce the release of the forty-seventh of our on-line catalogs: which is another of our special lists on used and rare books and other items relating to Aleister Crowley and his circle.
The catalog starts with a selection of books by Crowley friends and associates. It includes a small group of early editions by Frater Achad (Charles Stansfeld Jones), several of which are signed, a selection of works by C. F. Russell, including a set of his Znuz is the Znees, Memoirs of a Magician (4 Volumes), and an inscribed copy of his Barbara Cubed, and two rare Masonic pieces by John Yarker, Crowley's mentor in the rite of Mizraim, & Memphis.
The second section of the catalog lists a group of curiosities, mostly from the collection of Edward Noel Fitzgerald (1908-1958), Frater Agape, a IX degree member of the O.T.O., and friend and follower of Aleister Crowley's. These include Five Glass Photographic Negatives and a single Cellulose Photographic Negative relating to Aleister Crowley, three original Tarot Cards from the very first test printing of the Thoth Deck in 1943, an Original Cast Metal Printing Plate of the Egyptian type surround, used in Crowley's The Equinox of the Gods, a rare Rosicrucian Book given by Crowley to FitzGerald, and several mid-twentieth century magazines with articles about Crowley. The third section is devoted entirely to different editions of Crowley's quirky magical / philosophical masterpiece, Liber Aleph .
The fourth section is devoted to Used and Rare books by Aleister Crowley, and comprises a mixed selection, from modern paperbacks to rarities. Amongst the stand-out items are rare copies of Crowley's Amphora (1908) and Hail Mary (1911) a publication that was arguably also Crowley's most famous practical joke. In 1908 Crowley anonymously submitted the text of this book of devotional verse to the well-known Catholic publishers Burnes and Oates who somehow managed to overlook the dubious theology and sexual undertones and published it under the title Amphora. Meanwhile Crowley published his own private edition with an obscene epilogue. Advanced copies of the Burnes and Oates edition sent out by the publishers were well received in Christian circles, and provoked some discussion as to the identity of the anonymous authoress. However it did not take long for the author's real identity to be exposed, and Burnes and Oates rapidly withdrew the edition after only a small number of copies have been sold. Crowley somehow acquired the remaining copies, and reissued the book as Hail Mary under his 'Equinox' imprint a few years later. Other rarities in this section include a handsome, privately-bound (black leather and gilt) copy of the "Subscriber's Edition" (only 250 copies printed) of The Equinox of the Gods (1937), and a copy of the special handmade paper issue of Gargoyles, (1906) limited to 50 copies & signed by Crowley.
The fifth and final section comprises seven handwritten letters from Frieda Harris, artist executant of the Thoth tarot deck, to Crowley. These again are from the collection of Edward Noel Fitzgerald who was a friend of both Crowley and Harris.
