Leonard Shlain has done it again: in a probing and wide-ranging study, Sex, Time and Power (2003) — which probes even deeper into the origins of patriarchy than his earlier The Alphabet Versus the Goddess (1998) — he sets out to answer the question he had posed to a ...

Qadesh was depicted as a naked woman
standing on a lion, with the crescent moon (representing the night) on her head, or as Lilith
standing on owls instead of lions. As a Goddess of Love, Beauty and fertility, (in the sense of a fertile mind more than a fertile body), Qadesh is sometimes associated with the sacred prostitutes (Quadeshu) of the baths at places cosidered Kodesh such as the resort city of sanctuary at Kedesh, Kadesh or Kodesh on the borders of Syria, Lebanon, Aram and
Canaan.

Although entitled "Lilith", this modern statue is actually a depiction of Inannna; not a "demon", but a Goddess. The telling clue is her crown of horns -- only worn by gods and goddesses.
