Party Like There’s No Tomorrow

From an amusing article in The Age:

For me, though, the title of Greatest Party Animal of All Time belongs to Sir Francis Dashwood (1708-81), England's one-time Chancellor of the Exchequer, Postmaster General and lifelong libertine. Dashwood was sworn to “taste the sweets of all things” and credited with “the staying power of a stallion and the impetuosity of a bull”.

He founded the notorious Hell-Fire Club to facilitate the drinking of staggering quantities of booze and the enjoyment of incalculable amounts of consensual sex. He held fortnightly orgies for decades, while remaining a dedicated husband and patron of the arts. Legend painted him as a Satanist, which was untrue.

Too much fun can ruin your reputation.
