GERALD GARDNER’S ‘WITCHCRAFT TODAY’ – The Inside Story
17 November (Wednesday)
By Philip Heselton
7.15 for 7.30 pm – £5.00 November 2004 is the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Gerald Gardner’s Witchcraft Today, the seminal book that launched the proverbial rocket that is the religion of modern pagan witchcraft. Philip Heselton tonight tells us the background to the writing of the book, and the inside story about the years leading up to, and following, its publication. Philip is the country’s leading biographical researcher into Gardner’s life, and he has unearthed much hidden material that sheds light on this extraordinary historical moment. This evening’s talk is followed by open discussion and contributions are welcome from all attending: some may wish to read (or re-read) Witchcraft Today and its 1959 sequel, The Meaning of Witchcraft.
Philip Heselton is author of Wiccan Roots and Gerald Gardner and the Cauldron of Inspiration (both published by Capall Bann).
