Treadwells Bookshop, London, announces:

A MAGICAL BEAST ON THE STREETS: ALEISTER CROWLEY’S SOHO

28 April (Thursday)
The Sohemian Society
Upstairs at the Wheatsheaf Pub
Rathbone Place 7.30 pm, £5.00.
Dr Christina Oakley Harrington

This talk looks at the environment and activities of the outrageous master of magic, Aleister Crowley, who dubbed himself ‘The Great Beast’. In Soho off and on throughout his long and flamboyant life, he deliberately terrorised Dylan Thomas, invoked demons in the street, brawled with his favourite prostitutes, and dined out on other people’s money.

This evening of biography, anecdote and cultural history takes us through the man’s life, writings and magic on the streets of this neighbourhood. Christina Oakley Harrington is a historian and is currently working on a gazzetteer of magicical London 1800-1950.
