Aleister Crowley was mentioned on UK Radio 4’s “Start The Week” programme on Monday.

It was amusing to hear Andrew Marr, one Britain’s most highly respected political commentators, referring to “Aleister Crowley, the wickedest man in the world”.

“A rather extraordinary character – now largely forgotten… A rocket scientist who ended by blowing himself up by accident in his lab…”

George Pendle, author of Strange Angel, was interviewed at respectable length.

“An avid practitioner of the occult arts – Aleister Crowley hokum… It’s hard to really be written up in the annals of NASA when you follow a creed of Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. So many weird people living in such close proximity.”

The programme is currently available for download through the BBCi website: go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4 then locate the “Start The Week” page.
