labyrinth

I discovered this today while reading about it in World Explorer Magazine.

This massive complex was said to House the Hall of Records, all Egyptian magical and scientific knowledge, as well as histories of previous advanced civilisations in the area and their knowledge as well. Herodotus was allowed to visit the ground floor 50% of the labyrinth but the priesthood did not allow him to access the 50% which was subterranean and included the graves of the sacred crocodiles.

In anothers words:
'...Greek historian Herodotus written in the 5 th century BC (‘Histories’, Book, II, 148), describing a colossal temple said to contain 3,000 rooms full of hieroglyphs and paintings. It was named ‘Labyrinth’ by the Greeks after the complex maze of corridors designed by Daedalus for King Minos of Crete, where the legendary Minotaur dwelt. Yet today, nothing remains of this supposedly grand temple complex – at least not on the surface. The mighty labyrinth became lost to the pages of history. '

In my very humble opinion this the kind of stuff that mainstream archaeology and governments
are trying to hide because it has tremendous implications for modern
knowledge; these 3000+ chambers underground housed the Hall of
Records, and all Egyptian knowledge of astronomy and knowledge of
pre-Egyptian advanced civilisations.

More stupendous than the pyramids, said Herodotus.

Curious is the fact this page is the only one deleted from this domain's server:

'The conclusion of the Hawara geophysic-survey is, however, still
waiting to be internationally released by Dr. Zahi Hawass, the
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (Egypt). Since
the release of the scan results at the Ghent University public
lecture, Dr Zahi Hawass requested to stop communicating our results,
intimidating the Mataha Expedition team members with Egyptian National
Security sanctions. After 2 years of patience we decided June 2010, to
oppose all cunning and deceit by posting the conclusion on the
labyrinthofegypt.com website:

The Mataha – expedition geophysic research confirms the presence of
archaeological features at the labyrinth area south of the Hawara
pyramid of Amenemhet III. These features covering an underground area
of several hectares, have the prominent signature of vertical walls on
the geophysical results. The vertical walls with an average thickness
of several meters, are connected to shape nearly closed rooms, which
are interpreted to be huge in number. Consequently, the geophysic
survey initiated with the permission of Dr. Zahi Hawass the president
of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and conducted by the National
Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (Helwan, Cairo) with
the support of Ghent University, can now officially verify the
occurrence of big parts of the Labyrinth as described by the classic
authors at the study area. The Labyrinth data are acquired mainly from
2 scanned surfaces at the labyrinth area south of the pyramid. One
scan survey of 150m by 100m on the right site of the Bahr Wahbi canal,
and one on the left site (80m by 100m). Two considerations regarding
the conclusion. First, seen the survey provided only two big puzzles;
the total size and shape of the labyrinth can not yet been concluded.
Secondly, the data of the labyrinth are accurate, because of the
exceptional dimensions of the structure, but groundwater affected the
consistency of the survey. The partial defacement of the data is due
to the high salinity of the shallow subsurface water and the seasonal
fluctuation of this level. So, we recommend also another episode of
geophysical survey after the dewatering project to enhance the outcome
to great extent.

In the upper ground zone above the water level, walls appear at the
shallow depth ranging between 1,5 to 2,5 meters. These decayed
mudbrick features are very chaotic and show no consistent grid
structure and can be comfortably related with the historic period of
the Ptolemaic and Roman times. A period in which is known, that the
labyrinth area was used as a cemetery, and probably also changed to a
living area in the Byzantine period. Underneath this upper zone, below
the artificial stone surface appears (in spite of the turbid effect of
the groundwater) at the depth of 8 to 12 meters a grid structure of
gigantic size made of a very high resistivity material like granit
stone. This states the presence of a colossal archaeological feature
below the labyrinth “foundation” zone of Petrie, which has to be
reconsidered as the roof of the still existing labyrinth. The
conclusion of the geo-archaeological expedition counters in a
scientific way the idea that the labyrinth was destructed as a stone
quary in Ptolemaic times and validates the authenticity of the
classical author reports. The massive grid structure of the labyrinth
is also out of angle by 20° to 25° from the Hawara pyramid
orientation. An analysis shifting the contemporary idea of the
labyrinth as funerary temple and its supposed construction age, but on
the other hand it hardens Herodotus accuracy, who described the nearby
pyramid to be at the corner of the labyrinth. It might even be
considered that the remains of the labyrinth run unaffectedly
underneath the canal, which crosses the total Hawara area. Like the
scanned Labyrinth sections on both sides of Bahr Wahbi canal have
similar and parallel grids on the geophysical results.'

According to Wilkinson in the Complete Temples of Ancient Egypt (134) it was "one of the great tourist attractions of Egypt in the Graeco-Roman period."

Amenemhet III constructed the enclosure of the “Labyrinth” (his Pyramid complex) after the pattern of the step pyramid of Djoser 800 years earlier - running north to south with entrance at the southeast. Djoser does have subterranean galleries and rooms under the pyramid, although not under the rest of the enclosure

"Under the step pyramid is a labyrinth of tunneled chambers and galleries that total nearly 6 km in length and connect to a central shaft 7 m square and 28 m deep. These spaces provide room for the king’s burial, the burial of family members, and the storage of goods and offerings."

Google images of the blue faience tile work of Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara, in particular the mosaic of an arch supportrd by eleven Djed Pillars - (compressed spinal vertebrae?) There is a “relief of Djoser facing the temple of Horus of Behedet (modern Edfu) in a blue faience chamber of the south tomb. “ (Wikipedia: Pyramid of Djoser)

The Hawara article at Wikipedia notes

"The huge mortuary temple that originally stood adjacent to this pyramid is believed to have formed the basis of the complex of buildings with galleries and courtyards called a "labyrinth" by Herodotus (see quote at Labyrinth), and mentioned by Strabo and Diodorus Siculus ... The demolition of the "labyrinth" may date in part to the reign of Ptolemy II, under whom the Pharaonic city of Shedyt (Greek Crocodilopolis, the modern Medinet el-Fayum) was renamed to honour his sister-wife Arsinoë; a massive Ptolemaic building program at Arsinoe has been suggested as the ultimate destination of Middle Kingdom limestone columns and blocks removed from Hawara, and now lost.

Queen Sobekneferu of the Twelfth dynasty also built at the complex. Her name meant "most beautiful of Sobek", the sacred crocodile.

Among the discoveries made by Flinders Petrie were papyrus manuscripts, including a great papyrus scroll which contains parts of books 1 and 2 of the Iliad (the "Hawara Homer" of the Bodleian Library, Oxford)."

The first scientific survey at Hawara was done by Lepsius. Here is a plate from his Denkmäler aus Aegypten und Aethiopien depicting the Pyramid & Temple Complex of Amenemhet III (1843)

☞ Kenneth R. H. Mackenzie translated a later publication Discoveries in Egypt, Ethiopia and the Peninsula of Sinai into English.

https://archive.org/details/discoveriesinegy00leps

It is dedicated to the great explorer, geographer, naturalist, and writer Alexander von Humboldt. Letter XI is gives an account of the ruins of the Labyrinth. He notes (79) “a rather modern canal, which may be pumped up, at least at this season of the year, is diagonally drawn through the ruins, (see plate 47 above) cutting right through the most perfectly-preserved of the Labyrinthic rooms, and a part of the square in the centre, which was once divided into courts.”

Hawara, Biahmu, and Arsinoe by Petrie (available for free from Google Books) Chapter I, The Labyrinth, (p 4-8 and plate XXIV) discusses his excavations there in 1888. He sizes the temple complex at 1000 by 800 feet.

"These mere figures will not signify readily the to the mind the vast extent of construction; but when we compare it with the greatest of other Egyptian temples it may be somewhat realised. On that space could be erected the great hall of Karnak, and all the successive temples adjoining it, and the great court and pylons of it; also the temple of Mut, and that of Khonsu, and that of Amenhotep III at Karnak; also the two great temples of Luxor; and still there would be room for the whole of the Ramesseum. In short, all the temples on the east of Thebes, and one of the largest on the west bank, might be placed together in the one area of the ruins at Hawara. Here we certainly have a site worthy of the renown which the labyrinth acquired."

Petrie's other work touching on it The Labyrinth, Gerzeh, and Mazghuneh is available for viewing at the HathiTrust Digital Library if you are in the US.

There are also a couple of articles in the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology:

JAE Volume 56, August 1970, p 81-100, The Egyptian Labyrinth, Alan B Lloyd

Lloyd examines the classical testimony (Herodotus, Manetho, Diodorus Siculus, Strabo, Pliny, Pomponius Mela) and concludes only Herodotus and Strobo actually saw the Labyrinth. He also reviews the principle archaeological excavations up to his time (Lepsius and Petrie).

"The Labyrinth was built on open desert ground with the result that not even the lines of a sand substratum were available to help in the reconstruction of the ground plan, as would have been the case had it stood on the silt deposits of the Nile. Furthermore, the site had been exhaustively quarried for stone and the last traces of superstructure apparently removed in the nineteenth century, to build a railway. The entire superficies of the building was covered by masses of limestone chips as well as larger fragments of sandstone and limestone which lay in turn upon a sand or beton bed of such proportions that it must have served as the base of a truly vast building. The study of the levels, however, did yield some important results; for it became clear that the main structure had been rectangular in shape and had measured about 1,000 by 800 ft. with additions to the north-east. This rectangle was divided approximately across the middle by a wall running its whole width, while there was also a great frontal wall of stone at the south end, the foundations of which were unearthed. The level of the beton bed along its northern edge was such as to suggest a much lower level of pavement."

"In the southern area a great door jamb of quartzite sandstone was found close to the axis of the pyramid in such a position as to suggest that it was part of the great entrance gate of the building. Further south there stood a massive brick temenos wall. It was clear from the examination of column-fragments that some of the rooms were barrel-vaulted, and it also emerged that red granite monolithic columns were employed, but probably only in the section north of the central dividing wall; to the south built-up pillars were used. To the south of the pyramid two shrines of red granite were discovered whose weight was estimated to be in the region of eight to thirteen tons; the remains of another shrine was found further to the west. Each of these shrines contained two sculptured figures of the king."

In reference to its function he notes the “Labyrinth was a temple. Egyptian temples can be divided into two classes according to the purpose for which they were intended:

1 Mortuary temples which are designed as a context within which the funerary cult may be carried out.
2. Divine temples built in honour of the gods to serve as their mansions, and within which their servant, the king, may attend to their needs.

This being the case, we are now faced with the problem of deciding whether the Labyrinth was designed to serve one or both of these functions. The short answer to this question is, simply, that the Labyrinth was designed to serve both.”

“From this discussion it emerges tha the Labyrinth was a composite structure designed to serve the cults of the gods as well as that of the dead king. The divine cults in question-almost certainly those of Faiyum deities-will not, however, have been practised independently, but carried on in association with the cult of the dead king”

According to the Wikipedia article “Though Sobek was worshipped in the Old Kingdom, he truly gained prominence in [the golden age of the] Middle Kingdom (c. 2055–1650 BCE), most notably under the  Twelfth Dynasty king, Amenemhat III. Amenemhat III had taken a particular interest in the Faiyum region of Egypt, a region heavily associated with Sobek. Amenemhat and many of his dynastic contemporaries engaged in building projects to promote Sobek – projects that were often executed in the Faiyum. In this period, Sobek also underwent an important change: he was often fused with the falcon-headed god of divine kingship, Horus. This brought Sobek even closer with the kings of Egypt, thereby giving him a place of greater prominence in the Egyptian pantheon. The fusion added a finer level of complexity to the god’s nature, as he was adopted into the divine triad of Horus and his two parents: Osiris and
Isis"

JEA Volume 88, 2002, p 106-120, New Light on the Egyptian Labyrinth: Evidence from a Survey at Hawara, Inge Uytterhoeven and Ingrid Blom-Boer (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) in March 2000)

That latter note "As a result of the earlier work at the site, the once famous Egyptian Labyrinth now looks like a vast lunar landscape"

"The earlier excavation results and the current state of preservation of the Labyrinth make it clear that an unambiguous reconstruction of its ground plan and a full understanding of its functions are quite difficult."

"Even after the numerous disturbances of the site, the Labyrinth still yields new supplementary data. During the Hawara 2000 survey two Middle Kingdom statues possibly recorded by Lepsius were found. In the immediate neighbourhood of the statues several in situ architectural elements of the Labyrinth as revealed by Petrie were recognizable. What can be deduced from the remains so far is that both (re)discovered statues were integrated in the sculptural programme of the temple of Amenemhat III, which included statues of the king as king and in divine roles, as well as many figures of different local gods, above all, of Sobek. These statues were executed in a very dense white limestone, the sight of which must once have been magnificent. The temple itself was made of limestone as well, having beautifully carved reliefs on the walls and architectural details in other materials, such as red granite and sandstone."

I would not be surprised if there are tunnels – the funeral appointments of the mother of Khufu were found at the bottom of a deep shaft at the foot of the Great Pyramid. Although if I understand correctly, the water table in the area may have destroyed any hieroglyphic papyri (if such exist) unless they were somehow sealed in water proof containers. The Hawara Iliad papyrus scroll dates to 150 ce, and was found in an above ground tomb. Any papyrological material dating to the Middle Kingdom would be 2000 years older.

(☞ re Mackenzie I cannot resist citing Godwin’s Theosophical Enlightenment (222-223) "The tangible foundations of the Golden Dawn are the famous cipher manuscripts, which still exist in a private collection in England. Easily deciphered, since they are written (in English) in an alphabetic code published by Trithemius, they contain outlines and brief rituals for the hierarchical grades of an occult order. Westcott always maintained that his masonic colleague, the Rev. Adolphus A. F. Woodford, had found the manuscripts by chance at a London bookstall, and that an address included in them had led Westcott to contact a lady in Nuremberg, Anna Sprengel. She had revealed to him the existence of the order, and, on her authority as a seventh-grade "Adeptus Exemptus," given Westcott the fifth grade of "Adeptus Minor" and authorized him to initiate others. Before anyone could track Fräulein Sprengel down, she was reported to have died, leaving Westcott and his two S.R.I.A. colleagues, Mathers and Dr. William R. Woodman, in sole control of the order.

No Golden Dawn scholar believes Westcott's story. According to Mr. Gilbert, the cipher manuscripts are in the handwriting of Kenneth Mackenzie, the colleague of Westcott and Mathers in the Society of Eight. Mr. Parisious has found that after Mackenzie's death in 1886, his widow gave his masonic papers to Westcott. These included the cipher manuscripts, which Westcott decided to use for the foundation of his intended Order. Mrs. Mackenzie was among the first people enrolled in the Golden Dawn, effectively binding her to secrecy about the origin of the rituals. But where did Mackenzie get them from? There are rumors that they had passed through the hands of Eliphas Levi, and that there are manuscripts in the Grand Orient Library (the headquarters of Freemasonry in France), which show their origins in the "Jewish Lodge." Thus we come back again to that offshoot of the Asiatic Brethren and the Fratres Lucis of the early nineteenth century, in which Bulwer-Lytton is said to have been initiated.")

Below appears to be the primary scan result which led to the conclusion that "Underneath this upper zone, below the artificial stone surface appears (in spite of the turbid effect of the groundwater) at the depth of 8 to 12 meters a grid structure of gigantic size made of a very high resistivity material like granite stone. This states the presence of a colossal archaeological feature below the labyrinth “foundation” zone of Petrie, which has to be reconsidered as the roof of the still existing labyrinth."

Here is the publication of the full survey results (originally published in NRIAG Fall 2008?)

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/277389608_VLF-EM_study_for_archaeological_investigation_of_the_labyrinth_mortuary_temple_complex_at_Hawara_area_Egypt

"CONCLUSION

The very low frequency electromagnetic method (VLF-EM) was applied to check the historical legend about the shape and structure of the labyrinth mortuary temple complex, which is located south of the Hawara pyramid. The VLF data were supplemented by vertical electrical soundings (VES).

Seventy five VLF-EM profiles were measured in a relatively small grid in the area of the labyrinth. The VLF-real data (in-phase) were processed and interpreted by the Fraser filter. The result shows spatially distributed elongated and square shaped subsurface anomalies, which may identify the walls and rooms of the labyrinth mortuary temple complex. Similar spatial distribution of such anomalies was outlined by application of the Karous-Hjelt filter, particularly at 8 m depth.

2D resistivity inversion of the VLF-EM data in the form of horizontal slices showed a contrast between intermediate and very low resistivity values at depths of 3 m, 5 m and 12 m. There are elongated structure features that may correspond to parts of the labyrinth mortuary temple complex that are in the same range of depth as those detected by the Karous–Hjelt filter. The VLF-EM technique showed a fairly good result as a means of archaeological prospecting, as seen from Fig. 11 that outlines the expected shape and structure of the archaeological remains of the labyrinth mortuary temple complex, based on the different techniques used in the present survey.

The resulting vertical resistivity distribution from the 3D inversion of VES data is in the same range as that resulting from 2D resistivity inversion of VLF-EM data, matching well with the shallow geologic information. Inverted models of the VLF-EM and VES data are in agreement with respect to the general resistivity structure of the area. Anomalies were observed in the VLF-EM data that may be originated from remains of the labyrinth. However, no alternative information is available to support the present interpretation. Nevertheless, we hope the site may be excavated in the future based on these survey results."

I am so pleased that this thread has gotten some fascinating responses. I was enthralled with ancient Aegyptus since I was a child; both for it's mystique, it's inherent magickal power, and it's fascinating history.

I especially wanted to thank JG for their interesting updates and posts in this thread.

Thank you,

Chris

You are welcome Chris, and thank you for motivating me to learn something new. It is a case in prejudice. My original mental response to your post was conditioned by complaints I have heard in time: the suppression by powers that be of certain knowledges. My personal view is that the ancient Egyptians have very little to teach us - except how to sacrifice our lives to whoever is the Pharoah of the day. Pyramid schemes. One thing we do know is that according to the principles of Maat the power of the Pharoah was justified primarily through his ensuring the just distribution of the grain of the Nile.

I do think they more likely than not had a greater astronomical and geometrical knowledge than the academy gives them credit. I think this (outside of the conservatism of Academia in general) is a reaction to the many theories advanced without evidence through the ages. I do think the art and science of the hieroglyphs are in their infancy, and like the etymology of the Torah (gates of Yetzirah) can teach us more than we think we know.

If the Pyramids and monuments were in the USA there would be little not known about them - the poverty of Egypt is probably the primary reason they are not as explored as well as they could be. I am sure the robbery of Egypt by Europe also has something to do with Egypt's reticence to let researchers do what they will - not too mention all those with a crazy axe (unjustified or not) to grind.

By the way - it appears you are one of the few who still have a profile photo due to your use of a Gravitar Avatar!

I think if the pyramids were in the USA it would be even worse. They would be cleaned out of any and all damning evidence against the mainstream archaeological paradigm that Egypt is a stand-alone civilisation that made the pyramids and sphinx themselves only 2 to 4000 years ago, and they would be set up as giftshops and roped off with safe areas to walk with no flavour whatsoever.

And yes I like my avatar. It's a little kitty looking in a well, from a little japanese indie gaming company. They love their cats.

Aha! So Fraulein Sprengel is buried in the Hawara Labyrinth!

digi.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/diglit/kircher1679/0102/image

The question is where in the labyrinth. I think Athanasius Kircher had a precognition of the entire series of events which led to the founding of the Golden Dawn (thus decisviely and unequivocally refuting those who claim Anna was a ectoplasmic spectre pre-eternally projected into the Akasha (ākāśa आकाश) by William Wynn Westcot to fulfill a phantasy he had of a ménage à trois between Anna Aiwass and the Argonaut of Avalon) else why did he (Athanasius) publish the Ichnography (ἰχνογραϕία) of the Hawara Labyrinth on page 78A of his Turris Babel sive archontologia: qua primo priscorum post diluvium hominum vita, mores rerumque gestarum magnitudo, secundo turris fabrica civitatumque exstructio, confusio linguarum & inde gentium transmigrationis, cum principalium inde enatorum idiomatum historia, multiplici eruditione describuntur & explicantur in 1679 the year before he died at age 78?

It is impossible that it is a coincidence and even more impossible that it is a synchronicity.

Now if it is true that dear Anna (countess of Landsfeldt, love-child of Ludwig I of Bavaria and Lola Montez) died in 1891 and yet lived at least until 1909 (ring any bells?) as Swami Laura Horos aka Ann O'Delia Diss Debar aka Ann O'Delia Salomon aka Della Ann O'Sullivan aka Vera Ava aka Editha Lola Montez aka Madame Messant (or McGonn) aka Swami Viva Ananda aka Laura Jackson aka the greatest medium of the late 19th and early 20th century not excluding Aiwass "Not" MacAleister. Now even though Swami Horos was convicted of fraud multiple times in the United States, and was tried for rape and fraud in London in 1901, the great Hungarian American Jew Harry "Handcuff" Houdini, famed Illusionist and Bondage Escape Artist, active Freemason, and son of a Rabbi, praised her as "one of the most extraordinary fake mediums and mystery swindlers the world has ever known." Harry began his magic career in 1891! The clues are adding up!

It is my theory that if Swami Horos is not Soror Sprengel (and how could she not be) it can only be because the Fraulein was one or another of several spiritual other identities (which makes sense if she was as great a medium as Houdini determined). The most likely doppelgänger is that she was Crowley in drag. If you look at how plump portly and well fed she was and compare her portrait (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a0/Swami_Laura_Horos.jpg) to the famous one of Crowley in the identical hand and facial poise (lashtal.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/aleister_crowley_life_pics_01_uprighted_20121020_1169729943-242x300.jpg) taken in his plump period you will see they are spitting images of each other (it is nothing for adepts of their stature not only to assume multiple identities but also to travel back and forth through time - I seem to remember Crowley somewhere demonstrating in his writings his ability to do just that, and not only at the time he rode in his Aeon car from the beginning to the end of time (like that guy in the Weapon Shops of Isher (τὸ Α καὶ τὸ Ω)) – but he actually documents a case in which he travels from future to past and back again – all witnessed and certified iron clad.

It all begins to make even more sense when we remember the "all in the family" Isis Osiris Horus incest of which Crowley was so exultant in his Lashtal exegesis - in which he by virtue of praeter-moughty Ouroboros was his own ejaculation into kingdom come - we see here what was the pragmatic upshot of this practice: he initiated the Golden Dawn through Swami Horos aka Soror Sprengel thereby actualizing the virtual possibility of his own initiation into the order and closing the atemporal circuit of his ainattainment to Ipsissimus. But setting all these abstruse speculations aside and the even the more likely fact that Anna Sprengel was Blavatsky come back from the dead to haunt herself in the person of Aleister because she actually did die in 1891 and she looks exactly like Aleister (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ad/Helena_Petrovna_Blavatsky.jpg/220px-Helena_Petrovna_Blavatsky.jpg) we return to the original question and ask where oh where in the labyrinth is Anna herself? (I must make a confession here – for even though I am perhaps the most paragonic heterosexual male who has ever lived so much so that heterosexual men seek to slay me at every turn, and though I have never had a stirring in my girl nuts when when I gaze unabashedly and unashameably at pictures of Aleister as I am forced to do everytime I visit this cite (so much so I wonder when my pock headed terror visions will end) when I gaze with equal aplomb at Madame Blavatsky – even though her facial resemblence to Crowley is uncanny to the point of divine demonics – I am stirred strangely in my nethermost grot – my whole body shudders in ecstasis – I invoke I beseech even a spectrous shadow of the lady to take mercy upon her abject slave)

Our first clue to the whereabouts of the quark sarcophagus of Sprengel must lie with that of the hellenistic mummy discovered by Sir Petrie – found clutching a scroll of the Iliad (the so called Hawara Homer) to its breast. I am not currently in England where the fragments of this Iliad are now - but I think there must necessarily be clues in the scroll as to the whereabouts of Anna - for if I am right that mummy is actually the first and original incarnation of Anna, i.e., the point in history when she first incarnated on the planet Earth and through a period of two thousand years climbed the Rosicrucian ladder to its tippity top. Anna Livia Plurabelle!

Anyway, I am not at liberty to say more than I have already, and I more than likely have already exceeded the bounds of prudence and discretion, but as I am as eager for everyone else to solve this cryptogram as I am – so I will take a risk and share one more crucial piece of the puzzle which in itself may quite well be sufficient to dissolve the puzzle and set all these ghosts to rest – for it is a fact that they haunt and trouble the molten innards of the earth – and cause untold drumpfian strife on the planet – they are the wicked spiritual principalities who are not flesh and blood with whom we wrestle in the Apocalypse of Heaven and Earth. If you look closely at the labyrinth (and how the Jesuit Kircher was able to skry through the rubble of Hawara and sketch (ἴχνος – track trace) its architecture is truly astonishing – for he has set forth before us its veritable dodecanomic bas-reliefs) – you will see that one of its nomes – that of Heliopolis – contains a box which looks suspiciously like a box constructed to observe solar eclipses and transits of planets across the face of the sun. The six braziers perhaps signify the six planets through Saturn precisely positioned in specific signs and houses – do we have a horoscope here – and is Kircher a closet Copernicus? Although there is an astronomical and hieroglyphic symbol of the sun drawn on the box (devulging to novitiates the great secret that the sun only appears to be a sphere to an uninitiated gaze, just as it it only appears to circle the earth – in reality it is a slightly oblong cube as can be plainly seen once the serpentine veil of nature is lifted from its eyes) I am beginning to think that it augurs the Newton Huygens debate betwixt the corpuscular alchemists and wavelinear refractionists as to whether light is a particle or a wave.

Ironically it was Thomas Young in 1801 who first performed the double slit experimet which has caused so much consternation down to this day (see for instance the online review by Philip Ball, (Nature August 7, 2018) “Two slits and one hell of a quantum conundrum” of a new book on the subject by Anil Ananthaswamy Through Two Doors at Once: The Elegant Experiment That Captures the Enigma of Our Quantum Reality) as it was Young who vied with Champollion to be the first to decipher the Egyptian hieroglyphs. He got the Demotic Coptic laurels and the rest is history.

Did Young – one of the last of the great polymaths – get the idea to observe the interference patterns of light from the mysterious box of the Heliopolis nome of the Labyrinth (via Robert Hooke perhaps?). We may never know nor will we ever know what Anna has to do with all this and whether she is now a mere quantum wave function shunted from corpuscle to corpuscle in a labyrinthine no man’s land on the border between non-existence and mere possiblity wavering in and out of nowhere until the day of Be With Us. Anyway I got to go but I do want everyone to know that the path to the solution to this riddle is never far from my consciousness and the abgrund of alethia will not cease to avail in this impasse! To Anna! May she ever correct the errors of the renegade Aiwass Abyssward!

Actually I think I want to walk back my thrilling hypothesis – for upon closer inspection of the Heliopolitan nome I see now that it is more like an early proto-type of a Jack in the Box – or Cuckoo Clock – with the sun acting as bearded pecker sounding the hours – for its appears he is holding some sort of gong device which looks like the planet earth attached to a mechanical bar of Newton or lever of Archimedes, and he is getting ready to smash (or rather bang it) it into the relativistic surface sheaves of a hyperrcube – in which case perhaps Anna is not resting her bones in Hawara after all but propping up the black stone at Mecca with the help of the godesses al-Uzza, Manat, and Al-Lat who contrary to Muslim popular belief (and Capital Christian Corn Liquor) are not imaginary godessess at all – but real living embodiments of the better half of Adam!

Post Script

I wrote this William at the very time you wrote your exclamation - actually as I scan it I realize it was written either the very day or the very day after the Nature review of the quantum experiment. Alas! Like a dozen or two other responses to threads "only time will tell." At least you did not have to wait five plus years like Leo for his response!

Chris,

I do not know if you are still interested in Hawara but here is a 55 page paper published by Keith Hamilton on his academia.edu web page (keithhamilton.academia.edu/research) at the end of last year

The Hawara Pyramid, A Layman's Guide

You should be able to click on the essay to download it without either creating an academia.edu account or logging in

John

By the way if anyone is actually interested in the illustration above of the Hawara Labyrinth found in Athanasius Kircher's Turris Babel, it is a very high definition image and zoomable to arbitrary degree, or viewable in detail on a large monitor.

jg: girl nuts ... Cuckoo Clock ... bearded pecker ... Capital Christian Corn Liquor ...

Holy Moly, this is some prime nutty stuff indeed, with outstanding crank material on multiple dimensions extending it beyond normal mere nut-bar stuff into the pure Cuckoo-Bird-Aether..

Time to start planting!

Well it was meant purely as humor but evidently I am the only one who thinks it is funny! When you are dealing with loony tunes who believe in a loony tune perhaps lunacy is the best course. Besides it is all topical the insanity of current threads. The bearded pecker reference by the way was not perhaps what you think - it was meant to reference the depiction of one of the symbols of the Heliopolis nome of the illustration

nome

which for the life of me I can not make heads or tails. If you can please let me know. Same thing with the Cuckoo clock and jack-in-the-box. Athanasius Kircher himself like Crowley has gone down in history (to say the least) as a crank.

I do agree the "girl nuts" was a little overboard, but given the degree to which some little boys and men (of that very very very small group of people who do not even represent 0.000000001 percent of the population of the planet) are enamoured of 'aliceister' I thought it aprope given his propinquity for running around Paris in drag - although I agree for many it is more than likely indicative of a daddy complex than latent homosexuality. An occult fascist fundamentalist in drag - go figure. It reminds one of the scene in Gravity's Rainbow where all the Nazis are engaged in libertine debauches.

It is meant to be styled a little along the lines of Finnegans Wake targeted to a micro-hermetic scission of lunatic history. Atlhough I am no Joyce by any stretch of the imagination - just like that work - we tend to read the meaning in it which is reflective of the little slice of history which we know. If one person got a giggle I figure it was a job well done. Although when I excite the kind of reactions which you just displayed it does lead me to rethink my objects and aims.

Besides I generally target my posts to the person to whom I am responding - but I fear if a New York punk rocker who dedicated his life to getting people off heroin does not get it - neither will the urbane European.

But I will take the Cuckoo-Bird-Aether comment as a compliment - not.

If you are as far north of New York City as you say you are I think I would wait to plant.

Post Script

Crowley was an early literary love who I eschewed back in '86 - Joyce a literary love around the millennium. These days my tastes in literature are far more sober and staid. The last book I read was Oceans in Decline by Sergio Rossi published this spring, and which I heartily recommend. It is better to fill your head with science than superstitious hermetic 'qabalistic' pseudo-science - although after the Holocaust I doubt even so noble a pedigree as pseudo-science is a fitting appellation.

By the way poking fun at the beast is a bad habit left over from childhood - and I actually thought I had grown out of it!

Post Post Script

Ditto the music links. They are reflective of the music of childhood. These days if there is music it is the birds chirping the trees, and if one must Opera, Classical, Jazz, Folk Rock, Traditional, or What Not. Someone played a Dinah Washington CD not too long ago which I thoroughly enjoyed. And then by Jove they went on to play Hank Williams Senior!

i think i’m getting the gist ;

obscure portals breaching
the bounds of prudence and discretion

embroiled in shifting puzzles riddling the conscious impasse
a jest upon itself
to dispirit the faculty

as the wisdom of the heart essays .

phew i think i need a chill pill after that long trek
