Is this new book by Fulgur 'Dearest Vera' actually in print and available now as of May ? Or was the April print date optimistic?
I am interested also in hearing owners' thoughts 🙂
Also, does anyone own The Book of Ugly Ecstasy or Valley of Fear also printed by Fulgur that can tell me about them?
I am interested in another of his art collections since i really love his coloured pastels.
My favourite pictures are:
The Sun is Sick (cthulhu cultus)
Aerial Vampire / Man is a Bundle of Ids
Minions of the outer ones
The Vampires are Coming
Three Men in a Cavern
I like those because of their use of colour, and their mood by purposely being almost monochromatic. By concentrating on a use of mainly one colour or shade, for example primarily green in the Three Men in a Cavern picture, or primarily blue in the Vampires are Coming, it creates an overlying mood I think of omnipresent gloom or lurking power.
I do appreciate his line drawings as well, but not as much as his more finished pieces. It seems as if he lost interest in making more conventional polished works as those above in his later life, and focussed more on quick line sketches. I wonder if that had anything to do with advancing age?
Anyway feel free to post your favourite pictures of his here too even if you dont have any thoughts on those Fulgur publications.
There is a fascinating essay on 'Aerial Vampire/Man is a bundle of Ids' by stephen flowers in the book 'Black Runa' and I just realised that the so called portal painting to other dimensions with non-euclidean geometry mentioned in 'Against the Light' is noneother than that painting as well. Interesting.

I ordered the deluxe from Fulgur and standard from JD. Neither has shipped. I'll post when they do, but if it is a title that interests you, I recommend a purchase. The quality of Fulgur's output is beyond question and the quantities of this release are limited. Fulgur has been publishing for nearly 20 years, but has a small catalogue of available titles; most releases sell out (and then fetch a high price second hand).
"Dearest Vera" shall be a very interesting read, I'm sure!
Valley of Fear also lives up to the standards we have come to love from Fulgur. The colours are delicate, the lines wandering and evocative as we also love from Zos. Many are fantastic landscapes, often peopled with ecstatic grotesques - some look like they have taken a break from Tod Browning's Freaks! Zoomorphic entities rub shoulders with classic hag/witch forms etc. Yes, there is plenty to lose oneself in in this book. He may have been down on his uppers during this particular phase of his life but his imagination did not desert him.
So is this still not printed?
🙂 Just excited.
and i have a tendency to have bad luck in missing notifications so apologies for the blandness of such a post.
Why don't you email Fulgur via their website? That's the best source of information concerning Dearest Vera, I'd have thought.
God I love "The Vampires are Coming." I actually bought another "Man Myth and Magic" Volume 1 that I ran across in the shop last weekend just for the cover.
Who owns that painting, I wonder. Is it still in existence? It sure would be nice to buy high quality prints of that piece...
I just did a checkin at Fulgur's site and the status for Dearest Vera has been updated.
I'm looking forward to receiving this and Conjunctio which they've been holding off sending till Dearest Vera was ready to ship.
Update as follows.
June 29th 2010
After a long gestation, we are pleased to say that we expect to dispatch the pre-ordered copies of Dearest Vera within the next week. The deluxe copies should follow within 3-4 weeks. Our humble thanks to all of you who have been waiting.
Following receipt of the books on Tuesday this week I am pleased to say we have now dispatched all pre-orders for the standard copies of Dearest Vera. The deluxe copies are being bound now and should be ready within a few weeks. Customers who ordered the deluxe issue will be notified by email when their copies are dispatched.
The long delay on this title was due originally to difficulties over paper supply and then staffing problems with the printer. I sometimes wonder if such things did not play a hand in why Spare produced so few books in his lifetime!
Anyway, thanks to all of you who have waited so patiently...
im'a get it in a few weeks. when i recouperate from buying
The Valley of Fear, and Ugly Ecstasy. I got both in a nice double pack from JDHolmes. Such a nice guy.
I just noticed too my photos of my favourite pictures were deleted. I didn't know that was copyright since others of his art are on this site.
Could you PM me the difference between showing plates in the bibliographia thelemica and here paul? thanks 🙂
Chris both those Spare books are beautiful! You will love them. I too got them from JD Holmes who is a gentleman and a professional. I love chatting with him.
I am excited and awaiting my copy of Dearest Vera. It will be my first Fulgur deluxe (Vudu Cartography is my second : )
i wish i could afforda deluxe 'un. but thats the nice thing about company's like fulgur and starfire, compared to most publishers, as I like to say, their 'standard's are 'deluxe' compared to most books. so thats nice 😀
