The origin of the Death posture

I've read the 'Kabbalah: A neurocognitive approach to mystical experience' written by Shahar Arzy and Noshe Idel, which I highly recommend (It is definetly a must for everyone who is admirerers of Austin Osman Spare's writings). The kabbalistic procedures which describes how to induce the mystical states, the body sensations, the use of letters are so similar to the The Death posture that  I'm pretty convinced it's derived from old Kabbalistic traditions (and not from the black mass which I previously wrote on a thread). Do you know if Abulafia's method was known in Golden Dawn circles or to Crowley? Are these practices regarded "secret" since no one has mentioned them in a Spare context?

Note: In Zos speaks! He claims the Death posture came from Zeno. The claim of a greek origin could be said to be validated by the references mentioned in relation to Abulafia.
