Hurrah!
A question that most LAShTALians would have no difficulty with .......
Who was the basis for Maugham's character Oliver Haddo?

And I'm ashamed to say that my son shouted the answer before I did!

I must have been distracted...

No, christibrany, you have given a wrong answer and so the other side have a starter for ten, no conferring.  Who was the basis for Ian Fleming’s character the villainous Le Chiffre, as featured in the first James Bond 007 adventure Casino Royale?  (I’m sorry, I’ll have to hurry you…)

Ohh, there goes the gong!

I thought that was the gong, but apparently it was just a student’s rucksack with some kind of musical instrument in it falling over in the audience.  Can we have a bit of hush out there, please?  Good.  Well come on then, I’m really going to have to hurry you lot along on this one!  Otherwise I’ll have to turn it back over to the other team for bonus points.  And we can’t have that!  Oh, no, no, no, that wouldn’t do at all, methinks, that would be very very naughty.  Oh, dearie me, no...
Hmm, I wonder if I should take this gun out from under my desk and blow my brains out on tv, like that bloke did in Network - I don’t think I can take any more of these smug, self-satisfied, wet-behind-the-ears know-it-all clever-clog student types any longer.  Oh sorry, I didn’t mean everyone to hear that bit; I was just thinking aloud.  Ahem.  And so on to a picture round we have coming up, if you’ll all just take a look at your screens…

Do not adjust your set,
N. Joy

“No – I have to tell you, the answer is not Rimsky-Korsakov.

But now it’s time for our music round, if you’ll all just slip the headphones on.”

Three consecutive posts without any relevant content? Unimpressive.

Well, someone appears to have stolen the gong for their rag week, so I’ve no idea how much time we have left.  It can only be a matter of time before this thread is locked… But meanwhile the scores are level pegging and we have a final round with it all to hang in the balance.

“Who was the character Mocata, played by the actor Charles Gray in the film adaptation of Dennis Wheatley’s The Devil Rides Out, based on?” (Produces luger.)  And if you don’t get that answer right, I will shoot both team captains and then myself in short order.  Hallelujah!  (N. Joy).
