Crowley and Mocat(t)a
There is a Crowleyish character in the book and film The Devil Rides Out. Charles Gray is superb as the evil magician Mocata, who (in the film at least) quotes Crowley's definition about magic being the way of bringing about change by the force of will.
There was a chess-playing Mocata - in fact he was Mocatta. There is some info about him at http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=62254. He was a pillar of the Jewish community and, coincidentally, a "Patron of the 1895 Hastings International Tournament". Hastings again!
This info is strictly, I imagine, for "completists", as it is pretty tangential to Crowley himself.
