Are these really the Greatest Britons?
An old poll I think.
Heaven only knows how Aleister Crowley got into the list. Crowley who from time to time thought he was the reincarnation of the devil, led a coven of occult worshippers who met between the World Wars.
None of his depraved disciples would have expected him to be voted number 73 in the list of greatest Britons, so we can only hope that his unexpected eminence is the result of a bad joke.

I haven't clicked on the link because I hate the Daily Mail with a vengeance (possibly several vengeances, in fact). I do wonder, though, why it is that "journalists" - even those that cavort in the Daily Mail cesspit - can write such rubbish. For instance, what coven was it supposed to be that Crowley led "between the wars"?
Wake up, Daily Mail! It's Red Ed who is the reincarnation of the devil, not Aleister Crowley . . .

Most of their stories are little more than "a man I met down the pub said...". No checking of facts, not even a judicious use of Google! 🙁
Oh, they're not scholars or metaphysicians. The amount of "rubbish" that they generate and dump on the doorstep of our consciousness is almost always designed to stir up their readers' imagination or to present some controversial subject.
Well, you know that, and I'm sure your question is rhetorical 8)
Yes, it is.
