The story of the wave of Occultism that swept through British popular culture during the 1960's and 1970's, first broadcast on the BBC on Saturday 25th April 2015.
Crowley is described as "the libertine from Leamington Spa."
i can see him now, interviewed on BBC World, with that explanatory text running on the ticker below his cameo....
Yes, even though it was a radio programme, I too saw that ticker.
Well, yes, I had to listen to this. A bit fruity, thanks to Matthew Sweet's rapport with Mark Gatiss; but an enjoyable nostalgia trip nevertheless.
We had Robert Irwin's account of a Gnostic Mass performed by The Process intercut with Caroline Munro's account of being sacrificed in a black magic ceremony in Dracula A.D. 1972 which was probably too much of a psychedelic overload.
And Irwin referred to Crowley's "terrible poetry" ! Damn cheek !
We also had soundbites from 'Guardian of the Abyss' from the Hammer Horror series made in 1980.
For what it's worth, I gave a running commentary during the broadcast: https://www.facebook.com/lashtal.paul/posts/10205590958307767?notif_t=like
