DIY Monster Makers: Arkham Studios' Bryan Moore

Now the studio is also selling high-end collectibles, with a classy line of “literary and occult figurines,” many based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, as well as portraits of the authors themselves, and other real-life personalities like occultist Aleister Crowley and Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey.

Anyone tempted to splash their cash in the direction of Mr Moore or Arkham Studios would be well advised to take a look at this earlier thread on LAShTAL first:

There seems to be a facility for commenting on the blog this article comes from, so maybe people who have been ripped off should go there and comment. Free publicity, the good, the bad, the unexpected return of angry customers.

Thanks for this Michael. Great idea Nashimiron.

Be careful partying with the cash folks.

Bryan Moore is a thief and a liar. I am owed $300 from a purchase over two years ago.  Spread the word.  You would be foolish, in my opinion, to have anything to do with him

Did anyone read or notice Bryan Moore has had people pledged over $30,000 for a bronze bust of Lovecraft for a Library that Lovecraft visited in Providence, Rhode Island?  Perhaps people who were ripped off should contact the Library or people like Neil Gaiman or kickstarter who are supporting this project to embarrass him.

Amazed that no one here has simply put that link to the relevant thread in the comments for that article.

For more irritation, this from Mr Moore's Blog, dated January 2013 (and below a suitably smarmy picture of him cozying up to a certain Mr Anger), "As always, the "back order pile" is getting smaller and smaller as I work hard to get all the outstanding orders out to each of you. My thank for your undying patience! Again, be sure and become a subscriber on my Youtube channel where I make video updates every few weeks showing sculpting progress or work being done in the workshop. Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/my_videos
Also, I make progress posts just about every day on the Arkham Studios facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Arkham-Studios/154436994641281
If you happen to be on facebook, please stop by and give us a "like" and catch up with the latest."

Several outlets there for the placing of disgruntled comments...

Well, please go ahead. I tried to do that at the outset, but found that I needed to register in order to leave a comment.

Ha.  I was just going to say that I would do that if none of the aggrieved victims did.

Great minds and fools eh?  (he said foolishly).

According to emails received today, my comment on the article on fearnet.com was removed as spam, and my account there (I had to register in order to leave a comment) has been blocked "for repeatedly being marked as a spammer". Since I only left the one comment, clearly someone has bent the rules.

Over to you, amaden_De, or indeed any of Moore's victims.

This is why the third chapter of Liber AL was written. Too bad most of us are to old to lift our swords and spears. Is there no hope for the widow's son ... and other victims?

As always, there’s nothing quite like a few riled up grumbling angry customers.  “What a swindle!” “Boo!”  “Hiss!”  “Swiz!” “We want our money back!”  “Where’s the Complaints Department?”  “I want to speak to the Manager….” ?  “There’s a sucker born every minute” (Hang on, that one may not be in the general hue and cry – could it have emanated from Bryan Moore?)

Ain’t democracy wonderful?  I am tempted to enquire, if he’s such a reprobate, why doesn’t someone give Mr Moore a good cussin’ and kill him full o’ light?

Would this be the library of the Miskatonic University, by any chance? (with its closed “reserved” stack of forbidden books)

Most sympathetically yours,

For what its worth, Like Michael, I also attempted to leave a warning comment and link to the thread above. Swiftly taken down and account banned in about 5 hours. Conspiracy of silence.

I too accrued a swiftly banned account for the same. There is a link at the bottom on the Kickstarter page where one can report the project. This requires an account.

There is also this post on Reddit. The benefit here being that comments can't be removed or are unlikely to be. I don't think; I really know very little about Reddit.

I was, for some odd reason, under the impression Arkham Studios was operating out of the U.K.; it appears Mr. Moore operates out of California and Rhode Island, based on the available information. The Arkham Studios website lists Carlsbad California as a mailing address:

http://www.arkham-studios.com/artists/index.html

There is also another project Mr. Moore is involved in consisting of the solicitation of donations for building a bust of  H.P. Lovecraft, among other things:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/66144730/the-hp-lovecraft-bronze-bust-project.

If the numbers posted on the site are to be believed, Mr. Moore has accumulated over $45,000 in donations.

I also learned that Moore and his female associate were practicing Satanists with the Church of Satan as of 2006, as noted on the Wikipedia page on the Church of Satan:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Satan

'On June 6, 2006 the Church of Satan held the first public ritual Satanic Mass in 40 years at the Steve Allen Theater in the Center for Inquiry in Los Angeles. The ritual, based on the rites outlined in The Satanic Bible and The Satanic Rituals, was conducted by Reverend Bryan Moore and Priestess Heather Saenz.'

I would start with the California State Attorney General and that of Rhode Island for those desirous of filing a criminal complaint against Moore.

That will surely buy him at least one Roller and get him started?…! (pace Osho the Bhagwan)

Can this be right?  (N.B., not “right reverend”)… I can understand the “Priestess” bit, but surely a Church of Satan officiator would have a bit less of a conventional, churchy title than Rev?  (It brings up all sorts of associations of “more tea, vicar?” & Derek Nimmo, for instance.)  Don’t they have something with a bit more vavoom? “Infernal Grand Praemonstrator ”, for example?

All gas and gaiters,
N. Joy

It seems the (Very!) Reverend must be quite some kind of sharp evangelical operator to have managed to accrue $15,000 in little ‘moore’ than four days!  (I wonder, do they worship Mammon as a particular god-form in the CoS?)  Those sums would even give the likes of Jimmy Swaggart a fair old run for his money…
By now, at the same rate, he’d be on to about $65,000, and counting (that’s enough for a couple of Rollers now, not that he’d be entertaining the idea of 93 like the Bhagwan – d’you suppose?!)

Does that now mean the prospect of ‘building a bust of HPL’ in Rhode Island will go bust? (Pardon me I just could not resist that).  The Rev’s many donors to the cause will no doubt become well bronzed, if not brassed off by it. (Nor that either, I can’t seem to help myself!)  Maybe he ought to henceforth think about changing his name from “Bryan” to “Gimme” Moore (Help me, someone….)

“Give us your fookin mooney – now” (attr. ‘Sir’ (/Saint) Bob Geldof, Live/Band Aid, ca. 1984-5) (also attr. Dick Turpin, 18th Century stagecoach highwayman robber)

I doubt very much that that sort of money is flowing towards our friend. If, however, I'm wrong, and his wallet is indeed by now as capacious as an elephant's scrotum, he'll no doubt be in a position to issue refunds where required.

The people who were ripped off should have started a facebook group long ago called People Ripped Off by Arkham Studios. If I had been the victim of his scandal, I would had done this. The group should consist of only people who were swindled. I have only counted 5 to 6 people on the internet that claim they had received nothing and were lied to. Each victim should list their order number, the cost of the statues and the exact statues they were expecting to get on facebook. Then they should invite Arkham Studios and friends of Arkham Studios  to address this and see if Bryan Moore can get this group deleted. They could also invite people to like or support the group who were not victims like me. They should contact Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker and others who contributed to the statue at the Library so they can withdraw their support through facebook and twitter. If I had fallen for his con game, this is what I would have done.

In the interests of fairness and of just plain weirdness, or is it a demonstration of the goodness of humans?  Out of the blue, and I mean out of the blue, the AC statue that I ordered off Bryan Moore years ago arrived today.  Intact and actually a beautiful thing.

I have had no dealings with Bryan Moore since the debacle on Lashtal where he wouldn't engage or put things right.  I noted that recently that he had sold Arkham Studios and I thought that maybe the new owner had done made this, which may be the case, but the customs docket is signed by a Bryan Moore.  Maybe he doesn't realise who I am and he made a mistake!?

In the past I have called Bryan Moore a liar and a thief.  Well, I'm not sure how a court would view his actions, so maybe now he can be upgraded to either a really bad businessman with an appalling sense of customer service, or a thief with a conscience who wanted to repent.  I don't know.

But it has been delivered, and it is great.  I don't know that I'd recommend his business on the back of my experience however.  I just hope that its not full of cocaine and that knock at the door isn't the Oz Federal Police!

Sorry, Bryan I can't bring myself to a thank you, but your work is very very good.

Honestly, humans!
