How to become a cult writer

But it’s also telling that Crowley and Hamilton were both figures who would be thrown out of polite society today for their actions. (Peake, a melancholy surrealist who died of early onset dementia, would be spared.) Crowley was an occultist and self-described “wickedest man in the world” whose sexually and narcotically permissive actions led to his being labelled “the Great Beast”. Hamilton, meanwhile, was an alcoholic whose obsessive infatuation with working-class prostitutes — while providing peerless material for brilliant novels such as Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky — saw him spend his short life frustrated, angry and bitter.

Also amazing is the concept that AC would be "thrown out of polite society today." Society was must stricter back then, and today there are Crowley imitators everywhere.

Continuing the Amazing Tales, we see that AC "self-described" himself a Wickedest ... - I always thought he got called that in the Yellow Press, then he fanned those flames to get attention.

Drugs led to him being called The Great Beast is in conflict with his mother's earlier biblical association.

Paul, this relatively short quote you posted is a fine demonstration of how some idiot twit pulls together the most superficial nonsense, ALL of which has the story lines backwards from the truth, and then they get to spew this crap out onto our shared digital insanity network (I speak of the Wild World Web, not LAShTAL).

I think back in the mid 1900's, one could look forward to an average lifespan of 72 years. I always thought I would die at 72. A couple years ago, the so-called average lifespan was at 81 or so. Today, it's been reduced a notch due to semi-explained extra deaths due to the effects of virology.

Yeah, anything that says Crowley was "self-described" as "the wickedest man in the world" can immediately be thrown in the dumpster fire.  It's not like it would take a great deal of research to realize that's not true.

Next.
