PARENTAL ALERT: Occult and Witchcraft Dominate Marvel's New Dr. Strange Film 'Making Satanists the Heroes'

Schimmel pointed out the similarities between Doctor Strange and the controversial real-life occultist, Aleister Crowley.

"Doctor Strange, himself, many people are unaware that he was created in the image of Aleister Crowley, known as the wickedest man on earth," he said. "Doctor Droom then was reincarnated. If you look at the story, he's an English man, a sorcerer, discovers himself, synthesis occultism. He uses a third eye to practice his magic."

Schimmel continued, "This is an overt Satanist that has been turned into a superhero by Marvel."

lolz

the Demon Crowley is the gift that keeps on making money giving.

I half watched the first Dr Strange in the background in the office while working.  It was okay. Not really a fan of superhero movies.

Why our boss was adamant about having 3 or 4 large TVs installed in the walls is beyond me....

It's a subtle form of hypnosis. People become addicted to YV, especially the color screens, and their inner childs are calmed by the running pics and dialogs.

Personally, I find radios or TVs the be a distraction in an office environment, and your boss should see a doctor, and you might be of the same temperament ... to solve this problem, take a hammer to work.

It is a DISTRACTION indeed.  For the first couple of months I literally had to block the side of my vision because seeing the movement in my peripherals constantly was freaking me out.

Now I just kind of ignore it.

Ah, you have demonstrated good yama (TVyama). However, I would still recommend one of those small emergency hammers that you use to extract yourself from a crashed vehicle (for self-defense or TV-offense.

I'd like to see some evidence for Strange being based on Crowley.

Also, Dr Droom, while his is an English sorcerer who discovers himself, is a completely different character from Dr Strange, and was recreated as Dr Druid.

But why let facts get in the way of a good story?

Personally, I wish that Thelemites and Satanists had even a fraction of the power and influence these people attribute to them.

From what I've seen of reviews, Strange is hardly the hero of the piece.  As with the Thor movie, the whole point seems to be to either sunset Whitey (Thor) or cut Whitey down to size, and nothing much else.

But that's actually one of the things that's making the current "phase" of Marvel movies pretty much unwatchable.  The "subverting expectations" schtick has become such an automatism that you can hardly have a straightforward heroic tale where the titular hero is actually a hero any more.  The "subverting expectations" is pushing against air.

Plus also, whereas in Phase 1, Marvel would often get cool auteur directors and actors and let them loose on big budget productions, they've been more and more like fussy aunts, doing reshoots, etc. - to the point that they might as well just give up on hiring directors altogether.

e.g. apparently Raimi's original vision was much darker and blackly humourous - as you'd expect from him - but Marvel got cold feet about it, wanted those dolla bills from the kiddies, and did a ton of re-shooting, so apparently the movie's turned out to be a bit of a nothingburger, despite all the CGI spectacle and acting talent.  So why the hell did they hire Raimi in the first place then?  'tis a mystery.

Something similar happened re. Marvellian cold feet with the original FF director, who had actually done an amazing low-budget superhero origin movie beforehand, and should have been trusted, as he was going for the very original FF vibe of them being shunned monsters.  But no, they had to turn the final FF movie into a complete hatchet job and mess.

Bleh, as with Star Wars and other beloved nerdy franchises that Hollywood, etc., have been butchering recently, I just don't care any more.  The first run of Marvel movies was pretty good fun for an old comics fan, but since the last Avengers movie it all seems to have gone to shit.

Most Hollyweird films in general the last 15 years.  Too much pandering and action/non-acting and not enough writing and performing.   Gotta find the indies.

I watched a documentary about him way back, one of his friends said he was always interested in magic, i couldn't work out if it was card-tricks or the other kind.
