i am very happy to report that he is a good boy ^^
it so happens unfortunately that he contracted influenza so was sick in bed for a while. he sent out my book today and he apologised.
so i recommend anyone else to do business with him if he has something youre looking for.
i haven't received the book yet obviously but i m sure it will come barring a postal mishap *knock on wood*
i think 30 dollars is a good deal for the magical record of the beast. so i am very thankful ricardo!

I don't think I would call LaVey a serious occultist...he is more of an entertainer....

You know, I'm really on the fence with LaVey. I have several of his books and, when in the mood, they can have some really funny moments. He can be a very sharp satirist and, occultism aside, the Satanic Bible can be quite enjoyed on that level of biting commentary. I used to keep my copy in the bathroom to read when having an "extended stay" (ahem-I mean, when doing "Toilet Bowl Yoga").

For anyone (which is 99% of us on Lashtal.com) who has read Crowley, LaVey cannot even compare. However, he DID inspire the "offshoots" who established the Temple of Set and one of those "Setians" went on to establish the Rune Gild, an organization for which I have great respect. So there IS a continuity and some powerful developments followed the work of LaVey. He's an "easy target" and I certainly have taken potshots at him myself with offhanded comments. I think his "Satanism" is dependent on that which it rebels against and is ultimately a very limited philosophy. On the flip, the limits of his "Satanism" offer some breakthroughs and liberations from even more limited worldviews. But having smashed through those gates, "Satanism" seems to ask for further smash throughs. Hence, TOS rises and from its ranks, the Rune Gild.

I can see the appeal of "signed LaVeys," though. He is a character, to be sure. Perhaps a charlatan. But if so, he also conveyed something through his "charlantanism" which speaks to the human spirit.

If someone chooses to adulate and stop at LaVey, that's a shame. But I have to say, I've laughed out loud reading his writing and if he is an

entertainer

he is one with a purpose.

Er..."Hail, Satan!"

😆

Although I find his [LaVey's] work rather crude, I can sympathise with the ''accessibility'' or understandability of it; this together with the obvious anti-christian approach - and ''cool'' cover - would make it especially attractive to either the young, or those who may have just begun their studies.
Never-the-less it serves to provide an [early] and popular step to more serious and/or advanced reading, which may explain the less harsh, or rose-tinted views that are held by many of these budget books.
