I am overjoyed to come across this site - I've read some of Crowley's works - currently enjoying Diary of a Drug Fiend and The Book of Thoth. The more I research Mr Crowley, the more I find him a very interesting character.
As to his 'powers'.....I'm open-minded.
Welcome to LAShTAL, Tim.
I've been on this site for more years almost than I've had hot dinners, and I'm still overjoyed with it. May it ever be thus!
Doubt even if thou doubtest thyself.
Doubt even if thou doubtest all.
It seems sometimes as if beneath all conscious doubt there lay some deepest certainty. O kill it! Slay the snake!
The horn of the Doubt-Goat be exalted!
Dive deeper, ever deeper, into the Abyss of Mind, until thou unearth the fox THAT. On, hounds! Yoicks! Tally-ho! Bring THAT to bay!
Then, wind the Mort!
- Aleister Crowley, The Book of Lies , Ch. 51
Welcome Tim! (You are welcome.)
“Make this your house, be one of Us!” [“Welcome” from Tommy – just for a break from the usual Freakish greeting…]
There’s nothing like a wide open mind – nor nowt quite like Joy or even OverJoy! Both of which may you hopefully encounter in abundance on Lashtal…
Wishing U all Success in the Great Work,
Norma N. Joy Conquest
The usual freakish greeting? Interested in your thoughts as to an explanation of why you think so.
PS it is a bit of a mouthful to say as a greeting.
Let me be the FREAK:
Welcome to hell!!!!!!! Wooo-hooo!!
(freaks out nude flinging toilet paper rolls around roaring 'I was made for loving you baby' way off key)
After unblocking my ears a little after your “enthusiastic” response, Thurdan, let me answer ptoner’s enquiry (and anyone else who may have wondered)…
You may not have read my own Introduction piece, but the first entry I made there explains the situation:
“There is a communal cry in Tod Browning’s 1932 film “Freaks” – “we accept you, we accept you, one of us, one of us” – which I feel could equally well apply here too & especially in regard of Liber AL I.60 and II. 19 & 20…”
The explanation beyond this was that when myself and the late Ian Wilcox & Gerald Suster set up ‘the company of heaven’ thelemic federation in 1993 (another story – not relevant here), one of my suggestions was to write to every new member the above greeting as a welcome. This was overruled by Gerald as possibly showing too much levity & insufficient sobriety in response, given the nature of the signed pledge. Ian, from his position ‘on the fence’ with the casting vote, said that although he agreed with Gerald in principle he could also see my point of view fitted in, & recommended that we review the matter again shortly. This never happened. (For one thing, dear old Ian decided he could fly off the 12th story of his tower block during an ‘LDS’ experience, as Captain Kirk might say, and ‘went on ahead’…)
But I always thought it was a nice “informal” way to welcome new people myself, while also containing a ‘universal’ sub-text.
Hope this manages to answer your question.
fohat digs holes in space,
Well, that's me feeling at home now 🙂
Not seen Freaks....yet...
*Takes a comfy chair in the comfy room*
indeed, one must be careful with doses of Latter Day Saints...
Thank you Jamie for being so detailed. Very interesting and with wit to boot.
Tim, you can already gauge the eclectic crowd here at Lashtal!
Can make for some very interesting chat.
(unfreaks, dresses, cleans floor and picks up toilet paper all over the room) 😉
