I am looking into Occult Science, not sure if it is for me, but it's interesting to consider.

I think I need to take some time to sort out is the history of the schools the relationships between the groups, for example Rosicrucian, FreeMason, Golden Dawn. I appreciate any suggestions of book titles or links that might help w that.

?How does one typically go about determining which one is for you?

At this point I am very wary of joining any group, I was hoping that I could study Occult science either as a curriculum or on my own without having to join a group. But it seems that most are associated with one group or another, even if one does not personally contact the members of the group.

I have nothing against individuals who are interested in similar knowledge and application thereof. I am just totally burned out on groups:
this because I have seen time and again the abuse of power, time wasted away on mundane matters, people looking for security within a group, or to a leader of a group as an authority, thereby giving up their own authority etc.

Does Occult Science always require that someone be part of some "group" or league of Magicians?? Obviously there is power in numbers, but until you know exactly who you are dealing with, wouldn't it be better to study alone?

I outline my interests :

I am interested in Tarot, as well as Astrology and Qabala.
also I am very interested in the subtle energy system of the body.
I am into meditation and visualization, but not really into in ceremonial rituals.

My approach to Occult Science comes after reading some of Jung's work I realized that the human psyche has many undeveloped aspects, and that perhaps the most important advance humanity can make is for it's individuals to become more "whole."

I have to say that I have a problem with anthropocentric world views (I am not sure if all the Occult Sciences have this orientation) but as all the problems seem to start with ourselves, I expect that to find solutions we need to study ourselves very carefully.

I welcome any thoughts on these matters. Thanks.

I think your not alone with your caution in commiting to any group.
But have you thought of "Crowleys" AA I believe you can have minimum contact with people, (in groups anyway) as you only ever have contact with your teacher and then in turn you are the teacher.
I may be wrong but this is my Understanding of the AA, and thought it might be of Interest and of some help to you.

Hi,

not sure if this post is in the appropriate section, sorry if it's not.

I think the Thoth Tarot deck is awesome.
One question I have of Crowley's work : (hopefully it will not seem dis-repectful, I am only beginning to check into things, and I may very well not use ANY of this stuff).
But my question is what is Crowley's relationship with Enochian magick, and in particular that which was practiced by John Dee (Spelling??).
Thanks for any info, my cat is about to walk onto my keyboard, this means it's time to go out,
R

Hi,I agree with Alistair,The A.'.A.'. do operate this way,if you join, would be good if you come upon a stumbling block as it were, its good to have a helping hand that will direct you but not influence your path, after all its your journey.

What is Crowley's relationship with Enochian? Well, Crowley practiced a somewhat incomplete, sometimes stilted form of Enochian that he largely learned from the Golden Dawn. Granted that the materials re-discovered by researchers since then were not widely available, if they were available at all.

It is a testament to the flexability of the system that the Golden Dawn's version of Enochian Magick got Crowley (and others) the results that have been recorded.

Looking these organizations up on Wikipedia might be a good first step, since it seems you know next to nothing about them.

The True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order by Paul Foster Case is worth a read. It presents a brand of Rosicrucian (and some Masonic) history in context of the qabalah. There are also sections with detailed analysis of the Tarot trumps in relation to progressive initiation.

Thank you mal,
I will check that one out.
Ok now I will stop asking questions, until I've done some more research on my own.
Thank you all, bye,

Having no faith claimed,,, I suggest investigating your Natal chart and numerology and source of your name itself to guide you toward Truth without a path the Future is Formed in the image of yourSelf... self-similarity and the nature of infinity are bound to shed light on Who you are ......just a thought from RedShifty AKA SpecialKCe
