Work continues with mounting anticipation on the final stages of the preparation for the press of Ecpyrosis, a scintillating selection of articles and artwork from the first five issues of Starfire. These issues range from the first in 1986 to the fifth in 1994. The articles have been newly typeset, and lightly edited where necessary to correct the occasional spelling error and other typographical anomalies which escaped our gimlet eyes all those years ago. Artwork has been freshly scanned where still available to impart a dynamic freshness and sharpness, both pleasing the eye and tickling the fancy.

I should like to express my gratitude to Bill Breeze for his assistance in facilitating permission from the copyright holder, The Parsons Cameron Foundation, for the republication of The Book of Babalon in this selection.

I have recently uploaded to our website http://www.starfirepublishing.co.u k"> http://www.starfirepublishing.co.uk the stunning cover artwork by Kyle Fite, as well as details of the articles selected for this publication. The page for Ecpyrosis can be accessed through the menu items "Forthcoming Books" and "News".

Ecpyrosis will be issued in both standard softbound and limited hardbound editions. Full details of content, page length and price will be sent out via our mailing list when the title is available for ordering ahead of publication in December. In the meantime, anyone wanting to be added to the mailing list is welcome to email me at starfire.books@btinternet.com.

Best wishes,

Michael Staley,
Starfire Publishing Ltd.

My present avatar image is a detail from 'The Queen', an oil on board painted by the English artist Leslie Hurry around 1945. I can't upload it to Lashtal since, drop-dead gorgeous though it is, it's not related to Crowley, Grant or Spare. There is a low-res image of the picture on my Facebook page, however, for those interested.

Best wishes,

Michael.

The final page count for Ecpyrosis is a somewhat elephantine 304, across which are spread sixteen articles and a fine and varied selection of artwork. A list of the articles, tabulated in order of the issues from which they originate, can be found here at http://www.starfirepublishing.co.uk/ecpyrosis.ht m"> http://www.starfirepublishing.co.uk/ecpyrosis.htm

The last issue of Starfire had a limited hardbound edition, which was simply clothbound. I've decided to make the hardbound edition of Ecpyrosis a little more to write home about by including a dustjacket and slipcase. Invitations for pre-orders will be going out shortly via the mailing list.

Anyone wishing to be added to the mailing list should email me at admin@starfirepublishing.co.uk.

Best wishes,

Michael.

Deeply looking forward to all the new starfire releases! More than the Crowley ones if only because they are genuinely unread material and also because they dont take so long to come out 😀

I'm pleased to say that Ecpyrosis has recently passed the stage of printers' pre-press proofs with flying colours. I had hoped that it would enter earth's atmosphere before the end of this year, but delivery to Starfire Towers in mid-January is the present estimate.

Contents of this volume can be viewed at http://www.starfirepublishing.co.uk/ecpyrosis_contents.ht m"> http://www.starfirepublishing.co.uk/ecpyrosis_contents.htm

It's been extremely enjoyable putting this selection together, and I hope that it will be just as enjoyable to read.

Best wishes,

Michael.

Great news Michael! I know the anticipation for this collection is high and feel that it represents well the quality that can be found in every issue of Starfire. Can't wait to see Volume 2 Number 4 next year as well. I must admit, in reading your earlier post, that I would have never thought that any sentence written by you would start with; "I should like to express my gratitude to Bill Breeze..."

Thank you for your good wishes; much appreciated. I'm sorry the book is too expensive for you. Given the contents and the page length, I consider the price eminently reasonable. If you were the publisher of short-run books, perhaps you'd have a different perspective.

Best wishes,

Michael.

This limited hardcover issue cost me around $145 but it will be worth every penny as it comes with a dustjacket and slipcase, and most importantly of all signed to me by Michael Staley himself! Not to mention all the fantastic content! Great news about the proofs, Michael!

And for those who might not know it, the article by Gavin Semple from issue 5, titled Zos: The New Flesh of Desire – an examination of the sorcery of Austin Osman Spare is the original essay upon which Gavin's much lauded Fulgur book Zos-Kia (1995) was based.

For anyone who missed out first time round, this article alone is worth 25 quid... after all, a copy of the book that followed it will set you back £250+ online!

I actually paid 25 quid for my second hand copy of Starfire No. 5 - about a year ago - but I will certainly purchase Ecpyrosis, as I think issues 1,2,3 are now very difficult to find.

That's a very good price, Michael. A proportion of the print run had to be discarded due to unacceptable print quality. A pity because, all things considered, that was my favourite issue of Starfire.

Most of the articles in Ecpyrosis have been edited, in most cases sparingly, to correct typos and other anomalies which crept under the radar way back when. In the case of Gavin Semple's article mentioned above, the artwork reproduced in the original article has been replaced with another drawing, altogether more appropriate to the article in my view.

It's likely to be a while before a selection of articles and artwork from Volume Two of Starfire is published. In the meantime, work is continuing on the preparation of Volume Two Number Four.

Best wishes,

Michael.

The limited edition hardbound is now sold out.

There may be a small number of ex-series copies available later.

Any news on when the hardbound copies are going to be shipped, Michael?

The hardbound edition being clothbound, it is being bound up by the printers, and so should be delivered at the same time as the softbound.

The estimate from the printers before the Christmas/New Year break was for the middle of this month. However, due to the various factors including the long-term illness of my production manager there, the delivery date has slipped to later in the month. As soon as there is a firm date, I'll be announcing it here and on the website.

Best wishes,

Michael.

I received a set of unbound sections last week for a final check of the printing, and noticed a couple of problems in the printing. These have now been resolved. I'm hoping for delivery from the printers next week, which will delay despatch of pre-publication orders until early February.

My apologies for the delay.

Best wishes,

Michael.

I'm sorry to say that the problems weren't resolved as quickly as I was given to understand. However, I have been assured that all is well, and both hardbound and softbound will be delivered to me by the end of next week, Friday 11th February. I'll be despatching all pre-publication orders the following week, therefore.

My apologies for these delays, which doubtless remind some of us of Billy Bunter's postal order. I hope that the print quality will make it all worthwhile.

Best wishes,

Michael.

They came back from the printers, but the jackets hadn't been gloss laminated. The jackets were reprinted and arrived earier this week. Due to the late running of Ecpyrosis, I now have to package and post a huge number of copies at the same time as keeping the next issue of Starfire on track. Never a dull moment, eh? Copies will ship just as soon as I can package them.

Best wishes,

Michael.

I am about halfway through the despatch of pre-publication orders, and hope to have the remaining copies posted by the end of next week. My apologies to all for the continuing delay.

I am in the fortunate position of having received my copy of the special edition and am happy to confirm that the production is truly spectacular. The scarlet slip-case matches the binding perfectly and there is very attractive gilt stamping on the front board. The dust wrapper has also [eventually 😉 ] come out very well.

Overall, a triumph for Starfire Publishing!

Thank you for your description for those of us who haven't received ours yet! Chris (thanks buddy) helped me calculate the shipping times based on his recent ordering of some titles from London and I *should* receive mine on or around the 21st! *Keeps fingers crossed*

Many thanks for your appreciative remarks, manofwycombe. The gilt stamp on front board utilises the cover artwork by Alistair Campbell for the first issue of Starfire. Yes, the jacket did turn out well, the better for the gloss laminating and thus worth the final wait whilst the printers did another run of the jackets.

N.O.X, the airmail printed papers rate from here to the USA has always had variable turn-around times, and recently the arrival of some orders has been significantly delayed due I believe to checks by Homeland Security.

Back to the cardboard and jiffy bags which circumscribe my existence of late . . .

Riding along on the crest of a wave, neverless

Michael.

Now that I have this beautiful tome in hand, I just wanted to say Great Work, Michael! It really is a beautiful book and the content is phantastic! I really enjoyed "The Vision and the Voice" article! As of right now, I've made it to "Meditations on Liber AL" and hope to finish the book by the end of the day!

I told you in private but I wanted a public record of how gorgeous of a production this book is too. I am very impressed! The gilding on the cover front is exceptionally awesome. When I finish Crowleys 'Magick' today I will be happily starting into this new magnum opus of Starfires.
Great job Mr Staley!

My heart goes out to the 'friend who is down on his luck' and must sell his unopened copy with the Near Fine cover. I'd ask what number in the series this one is but I'm afraid I'd get an answer. It's a shame that work of this quality (and content) ever makes it into the hands of illiterate speculators.

Enough ranting. Thanks, Starfire and all of the contributors, for producing this edition.

Many thanks for the appreciative remarks in this thread, the Babble-On Box, and elsewhere concerning Ecpyrosis; very gratifying to read. I enjoyed tremendously putting this volume together, in the processing revisiting articles which I had not read for many years. The delays aside, the printers did a good job, particularly with the hardbound in my opinion; somehow, I hadn't been expecting anything quite so chunky.

Best wishes,

Michael.
