Hi all,

I've done some major system upgrades this morning - site has been down for some 10 minutes. I really did my best to have the shortest possible downtime. I've migrated the whole system to new PHP which should bring better security and speed. Please let me know if you see any page crashing - there shouldn't be anything crashing, though cause I've removed almost all the old code.

The Merchandise and Book Shop links have been removed from the Resources menu: total income generated from both ventures in the last six months was precisely zero.

I would not be averse to having membership be paid, and then we could get features that are not available to non-loggable-in types, like i dont know, commons-use thelemic pdfs that are hard to find, or rare photos or something. I just want you to get the income you need to keep the site up. I like the new changes very much.

Hi eol,

Just looked at Lashtal today and it seems you're doing some excellent work, good luck with the rest of it and best wishes.

Hi Ian,

Thank you. It was one hell of a job to migrate Nuke database into Joomla!/SMF. There is still work to be done but compared to what's behind us it's nothing. 😀

Hi all,

93

I had to do some urgent upgrades on server which resulted in short downtimes in the past hour. Sorry for that. We're up and running now. 😉

Hi all,

There was a problem with portal login up for a while but it has been solved. I've had to do an urgent upgrade of Joomla! which broke our login system. I've managed to fix it. If you experience any issues with portal login form clear your browser cache and try again. This issue hasn't affected forums though. Sorry for this inconvenience.

Hi all,

Another important upgrade - this time PHP was upgraded on the server to it's latest version to fix some security issues previous version had. As far as I see everything is running fine. We've had short downtime a few moments ago - ~5sec downtime. 🙂

Due to extraordinary demand, I have enabled the Galleries for registered members. It's available under the Resources menu. This should be considered to be 'in beta' - please report any problems to @lashtal.com">webmaster@lashtal.com

Having just gone to the Galleries, my only complaint is to ask if there is a function to reduce the number of images per page. It may be my computer, but I get a large number of images and have to operate two sliding bars to get to the bottom of the view. If there were 6 or 9 maximum images per view, I would have all items on the screen without rolling up and down and could simply turn the page for the next set of images.

Better still, have a function that allows the user to determine how many images per page are displayed. As I have no knowledge of computers, I do not know whether that's realistically possible.

Unfortunately that's impossible. The best option we have is to avoid using Gallery as frame(have it open in separate tab/window) in portal cause it wasn't really meant to be used like that. But it's up to Paul to decide. I'm just a tech guy here.:D

Registered members will now see the Galleries in a separate tab or window.

Feedback would be appreciated.

Have to say, its a vast improvement. Opening in a separate page makes is all much more easier to navigate.

I second ptoner, a much smoother experience. I noticed that the contributor credits are missing from the Galleries, was this a legal issue, or something just not transferred yet?

On the old website, random images from the Galleries were displayed on the left-hand side of the home page. Are there plans to do something similar with the present website?

Best wishes,

Michael.

Not at the moment, Michael. I have a few more important things to take care of first. It was really hard to upgrade Galleries to new software and to keep everything intact. Connecting it all to Joomla!(to have a single log in system) was an adventure of it's own. I agree that the feature you've mentioned is neat but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Thanks for the update, eol. It's not an important feature, so I'm sure we're all happy to wait.

Best wishes,

Michael.

Hi all,

I will be upgrading PHP(and some other things) on this server in the next 20 minutes. You might all experience a very short glitch while on the site when I reload webserver though I doubt that it will be noticeable. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.

Done. There was a slight down time < 10 sec at one point. I apologize if that disrupted any of you. 🙂 We're back online with everything up to date. Please let me know if you experience any issues with LAShTAL. Though I doubt there will be any. 😉

Just a warning - I'll be doing some important server updates in the next 1-2 hours. You shouldn't notice anything but in case you do I beg your pardon and ask for patience. I'll let you know once the work is done. 😉

Another small fix - I've fixed front page. Now it has our dear favicon(if it's not showing Ctrl + R or clear cache) and Liber AL background is back too. 🙂

Hi all,

It's me again. Just a notice - I've upgrade our portal to latest version of Joomla! a while ago and I also performed small updates regarding our web server. We've had a very short downtime(5sec) at one point. I apologize for that.

People don't thank you enough for your efforts, eol, nor do they sufficiently express appreciation for your admirable dedication and courtesy (example: you always apologize for the website being down, even if it's for five seconds or during a period when the vast majority of users are inactive).

Cheers!

It could be 5 seconds, or it could be 100,000 years, for time is not here as There.

@ WilliamThirteen

😀 thank you

@ Los

Thank you. This is one of many ways I see my self Serving the mankind, an Oath I've given long ago. Doing servers and security is what I do for a living and I try to be a professional no matter if I get paid or if I work pro bono, as I do for LAShTAL. It's all the same to me. Either I do it with utmost dedication or I'm not doing it at all. Paul, LAShTAL and LAShTALians deserve the best underlying infrastructure possible and that's what I'll be delivering for as long as possible. There is no excuse for slacking. 😀

@ MichaelStaley

Indeed but since I don't know how many "heres" and "Theres" do my actions on this server reach I will try and have the shortest possible downtime. Just in case. 😉
