Personally, I think it looks great. Logged in to forums alright, but doesn't seem to carry over to home page and babble box? So mentioning it here. And, temporarily viewing on a borrowed iPad, looks great!

You need to log in on the main site - that login gets copied across with you to the Forums. It doesn't seem to be working the other way and I'll ask eol to look into that.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll see about the login issue as it's working OK for me. Perhaps you all ought to try and completely clear your cache and any passwords that your browser may have remembered. As for chat system, that can't be shown on Forums, sorry.

no matter how many times i login to the main page , not the forums, it never sticks. so i never see any babble on box. i login on the main page and it loads and goes to nothing but the main page with the empty login form again.

I had a similar problem when we were working on the site. Turned out I had to clear the browser cache. Have you tried that yet?

Hi eol

It made me reset my password before I could even get on at all after the upgrade; it didn't recognise my old one.

I am using Firefox. Should I change password a second time? It is still having the same problem; I am logged-into the forums, but when I Click the homepage link it still has blank input boxes. :-/

There are a number of things. It doesn't seem possible to login and stay logged-in when going back to the home page. Ideally, the user should login on the home page, and stay logged-in on the home page - as opposed to being transferred to the forums. I'm finding it very challenging TBH.

That's very odd. For many users everything works as you'd expect and as you describe, but for some others things don't work as well as we would hope.

Resetting password while in the Forums seems to have helped some members.

eol is away at the moment and I will ask him to re-examine these specific problems as a matter of priority. There are alternatives to the current setup that we need to explore; for example, using a Forum platform that is more closely integrated with the main site. This might help but there would definitely be a loss of some functionality.

Thanks for the feedback, though - I assure you I'm working hard to make LAShTAL.COM the best user experience it can be.

It's letting me stay logged-in ok. Ever since I clicked the link on the main page that said something like synchronise your accounts it's bee good. Prior to that I had logged-in and been transfered to the forum.

The only issue I have now is the Babble On Chat box. Prior to clicking the synchronise my account link I had been able to see peoples conversations in there, but couldn't post myself. Now I cannot see anyones comments in it but can post, but when I do I can't even see my own comments. Babblebox is a nice to have though, not essential so I'm not too worried about it.

Main reason for posting is to give Michael Clarke a comparable experience to contrasโ€  with, it must be this synchronising that is the key.

I adore the new graphics! For such a major upgrade, though there are some issues I'd say it's gone very well!

Wow - I would have no idea that I needed to do that.

I liked the babble-on box, it was useful, but it's weird that it's been replaced by ''contact the editor'' something I am pretty unlikely to do.

Thanks for the info. Was useful.

Well, I'm confused now!

The Babble On Box hasn't been replaced by the 'Contact the Editor' box, which is new functionality. The Babble On Box has been replaced by... The Babble On Box! It's accessed from the button at the bottom right of your screen.

When I login on the homepage it goes to this page : ucp.php?mode=login

which is blank.
Then I have to hit it again, hit enter to load, and it takes me to the forums.

Now I am going to the homepage to see if I am still logged-in there.

Nope, I am still not logged-in at the homepage. It never sticks . Hmm

It's the result of linking the main site with the Forums, with each using a different software platform. Thanks for sticking with it, guys!

It's no biggie, people will get used to it. Initially when I arrived at the front page I misunderstood - I saw the text saying Synchronize Accounts with boxes below to login and I thought that logging in was doing that. Once I realised it was fine.

On more crucial technical issues...

My homepage never logs in ever.

So I see no synchronise link.

Maybe if I try on IE instead of firefox...

I don't see a "synchronize my accounts" anywhere on the main page. I get "Integrate my accounts", and when I do, it takes me to the forums. Then when I go to the main page (lashtal.com) again, I am not logged-in. It never sticks, since the very first day.

Update - somebody slap me upside the head, please. I finally actually clicked on "Integrate my accounts" and got it automatically.

Slap me again for stupid.

I'm unimpressed with the paid software we use to integrate membership of the Forums into the main site - it claimed to do more than it has delivered and has resulted in an enormous amount of additional work for eol. As a result, I intend to revert to a different Forum software platform that is better integrated - eol has kindly offered to work on it on his return. It won't be as attractive or feature-rich as this Forum software but it should at least do what it says on the tin!

Even though phpBB is a very neat piece of software(way up to date compared to SMF that we used earlier) it doesn't integrate well into Wordpress that we're using for portal. I will re-migrate everything to WP native forum called bbPress when I get back from home. Expect some serious work to be done by the end of this week.

One info for all - we had to use ALPHA version of forum software in order to convert all posts from phpBB to this new platform. This means that there are bugs and glitches in it. I will be performing regular upgrades as they show up on bbPress server. If you notice any issues(I know about 'Recent Forum Posts' not working properly) let me know and I will see to have it fixed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just a small thing, but can we get rid of the "93! Michael Staley" at top right? What's wrong with "Hello, Michael Staley".

I can't see the Babble Box - how do I access it?

Any guidelines on the size and dimensions of avatars?

One thing I noticed when I set my Avatar picture that might not be immediately apparent is when is shows you the frame for cropping your picture you can actually streโ€ ch that out to keep more of the picture, you don't necessarilly have to crop it as closely as it might at first appear. Just sharing as others may find this tip useful.

That's right, @Hamal - this software handles avatars far more intelligently than most.

@Michael Staley - I've changed 'Howdy' to 'Hello'. The Babble On Box is visible as a thin blue window at the bottom right of the main page. Click on it and it slides up to reveal its treasures! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Avatars should be cropped square but, as @Hamal notes, you can 'crop bigger' - the software does the clever re-sizing stuff.

93 Lutz,

Which 'messages' are you referring to? If you mean the 'Private Messages' that were supported by the old Forum software then, yes, I think they've gone. It's possible that eol may be able to do something about that, though, from a backup of the old software, especially given that you're one of the site's most valued members. Please email me at webmaster@lashtal.com

93!

Just a small note. One of very personal taste of course.

When the "Recent Forum Posts" show that a new post was made so-and-so many hours ago, the member who started the thread is shown, and not the member who made the newest contribution. I would prefer to see the latter, but it is - as I said - a matter of personal taste.

It would also be cool if a click on the recent forum post would bring us to the newest post and not to the first post of the thread.

All personal messages are gone, as Paul has told you in advance. I can pull out those messages from database backup but don't expect them to be imported here. That requires me to write a convertor and I really have no time for that, sorry.

Paul will be able to tweak those little things like "Howdy". As for the rest, I will be fixting one thing at a time and I'd like to ask you all to be patient. I have other things to do in my life and while I love LAShTAL and do everything for free here I can't be faster than this. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have noticed the issue with recent posts the moment I installed forum software. As I mentioned earlier, for technical reasons we had to use ALPHA version of bbPress software which means that there are bugs in it. I will talk to developers and see whether I should touch the issue myself or wait for next update.

I will be adding Tapatalk plugin, Wiki integration and galleries first. And I will try and fix these glitches as soon as possible. ๐Ÿ™‚

I just made a post with 2 images in it. After hitting "Submit," the whole post disappeared.

I followed it with a post, hit "Submit," and it posted just fine. Then I tried "Edit," added an image, and the whole post disappeared.

I'm following instructions (img); enter address of img; give img a name; see img + address appear in post; hit "Submit"; poof! Gone to Oz, or some other unrecoverable dimension.

Now I just "Submit"(ed) a rather detailed post and it had no images, but it disappeared. This kind of nonsense used to happen on this site a lot - before we went through 3 upgrades. Then things got stable. Now it's back to the stone age (forget bronze) where I will be sure to copy my posts before submitting.

I'm very sorry to hear of the problems you've experienced, @Shiva. I've not heard of anyone else suffering the same 'challenges' but that could, of course, be down to the limited number of posts in recent days. I know that @eol implemented a significant upgrade earlier this week and wonder whether this is related.

As usual, @eol and I will do our best to ensure that all works reliably, securely and swiftly.

Meanwhile, I urge other members to report any problems either here or via email to webmaster@lashtal.com

@Shiva - when did this start happening? The upgrades I performed a few days ago have absolutely nothing to do with the website. I fear that some of these JavaScript plugins on the site may be causing certain performance issues.

I don't know when it started (in relation to upgrades). You see, there's been so little traffic recently that I have not posted an image or a link since the major upgrade. My first attempt to post an image was yesterday, and I did it over and over ... but each time the post just disappeared. Then I tried to post a wb address (a link - but not identified as a link - just a web address); that disappeared also. Then I tried a simple post, without images or web addresses, and that worked - just like my simple posts have been working all along.

I also copied the post with the web addresses and sent it via PM, and that worked! At least it didn't disappear.

I'm going to try to sunmit a post with an image in it right now, right here on this NEW FORMAT thread, as a test, as soon as I send this little note off to you.
