Weird forum behavior
Twice now, i have had posts disappear after attempting to edit them in my thread "What does BABALON have to do with Thelema?"
After creating the OP, i noticed a typo, and hit EDIT. The edit window opened, i made my edit, hit SUBMIT. There was no longer any post visible, either on the post page, the sidebar, of the forum listing (although the latter said i had made the last post 5 minutes before, no post was visible). Eventually, after an hour, i was able to submit the copy and pasted post and it appeared.
Just now, i made a post that appeared after christibrany's post #113426. I noticed an error, again edited and hit SUBMIT, and the post vanished into the aether.
Each time this happened, efforts to re-submit the post met with the duplicate post error, although the post that was supposedly being duplicated had in each case vanished.
Yee I have noticed this bizarre behaviour as well. It seems to affect some threads more than others, and particularly when approaching the end of an old, or start of a new, page. Although my postings tonite seem relatively unaffected, the more regular readers may recall the 'symptoms' are familiar to those I first noticed a couple of days ago, when I was originally wondering whether it could be a fault with my own PC or (more disturbingly!) in the particular reality tunnel I happened to be occupying. Fortunately (though not for the forum) it appears to be neither.
With thanks also to Paul for all of his dedicated hard work in trying to improve matters.

Jamie saw my second vanished post in the BABALON thread during its brief tenure before it vanished, since he comments both on the post and the vanishing in the thread. Attempts to re-post still get the duplicate post error message.
Another strange thing i have noticed in the "Our Favorite Music" thread is that sometimes but not always attempts to see the latest post lead to a blank page inviting me to post in the thread. To see that latest post, i have to click on a previous post, and scroll down, sometimes.
I have now succeeded in defeating the duplicate post error by adding a preface about the vanishing! I don't dare edit it though.
Thank you in advance Paul, for any resolution of these things, and i hope these strange behaviors are as easily fixed as the font thing you so speedily made better today.
A post of mine first appeared. It reappeared after an edit. After a second edit, it disappeared without trace. There were no links of any kind in it, so it isn't a spam thing, although it may be the software reacting to too many postings (including edits of the same post) in x amount of time.
In case it helps to fix the problem, I note also that under "Recent Forum Topics", a post to the "What does Babalon..." thread is given for 33 minutes ago, which is the missing post. However, the post is not there. So one part of the software recorded it, but another has deleted it.
A posting by you that you can not find right after posting it, can be found by dragging your browser over the forum title highlighted in blue above on top of any thread. The forum title in this thread are the words 'LAShTAL.COM Problems and Suggestions'. Clicking on this forum title will make you find the listing of postings and/or pages of postings posted in the topic in which you are searching for a missing post.
When you find the relevant topic, in this case 'Weird forum behavior', you should (given that there were more than the current one page in this thread) click on the page number before the last page number listed. That is how I have managed to find a posting by me that I could not findt right after posting it in a thread with 'many' pages.
Alas, wrwb, that method has not worked when my posts have disappeared.
It does work when recent posts are not accessible from the from page sidebars, as often happens with the "Our Favorite Music" thread.
But what several of us have recently had happen is that our posts vanished entirely, and attempts to re-post yield the "duplicate post" error message.

I have also experienced that, and have found that the only working solution is to keep a backup copy of any post I make for this site, so that I can publish any vanished post with help from the moderator of this site. This is a cumbersome and time-consuming approach, but it works.
For what it's worth, the following may be of use if like me you found you posted something and it's disappeared: go to the black bar at the top of the front page where it lists "Contents - Forums - News - Timeiines". Select "Forums" and then look for the category the post comes over, e.g. if "Magick" it would come under "Thelema". Providing that nobody else has posted in the interim, I've noticed there's a 50:50 chance that it will be listed there as Last Posted By, even if it's disappeared from the front page "Recent replies By", and that if you press on that or what looks like a square "tick-box" for the last page, you'll get to the post that way.
Also, although the post seems to have disappeared it is actually in limbo, and rather than reposting it again it's better to wait a few hours to see if it comes back from that invisible realm again (as it probably will do, and you don't want to see two or three copies of the same thing, do you.)
And keeping a backup of the post is always a good idea as well.
Posts disappearing anyone?
Yes. I posted last night to take you up on your absurd remark that Lovecraft was "a fucking geek", but the post disappeared. I then tried again, but that post disappeared too. Interesting thing was, though, that in the category 'Recent Forum Topics" it showed that the topic had been updated a minute or two previously, so at least my posts had been registered somewhere - just not visible or accessible.
Apologies Michael. These issues get heated sometimes.
Paul- How does this automated troll detector work, and why doesn't it flag mal's posts? Being facetious in case non-obvious.
david: If you want to hear Lee Atwater actually say those very famous words, I posted the recording in the Politics thread (back when you were still a conservative).
