Forgive my ignorance, but what do the letters A.A. stand for? How can I find more info on the organization? I've followed the link from the O.T.O. sight to the outer curriculim site, but that's about as far as I've gotten. Any history of the organization available?

Thank you

93!

I guest the most common translation is "Astrum Argenteum", which means more or less "Order of the Silver Star", the order Crowley established after "destroying and reorganizing" the Golden Dawn, when the Secret Chiefs contacted him to do so.

In "The Magick of Thelema," Lon Milo DuQuette writes:

"It is commonly believed that A.A. stands for Argenteum Astrum (Silver Star). I have been informed in no uncertain terms that this is not the case."

I think a whole thread could be devoted to Alternate Acronyms...

Astron Argon = Greek for Silver Star = 451 = Knox Om Pax (Light in Extension)

Aster Argos = Also Greek for Silver Star = 489 = Sothis (Greek for Sirius "the Silver Star" because it's one of the brightest stars)

Both of these were in James Eshelman's book The Mystical & Magical System of the A.'.A.'.

From Kaczynski's "Perdurabo" discussing the beasts father:

"Edward Crowley (1834 - 1887) came from a line of brewers going back over two centuries. His own father had expanded the family business into Alton where, encountering difficulty in distributing his ales, he set up Crowley's Alton Alehouses as outlets for bread, cheese, ham sandwiches and, of course, ale." (p.13)

Bread is the Foundation upon which our Work is based. Upon this Foundation is laid the Cheese of suffering and the ham of Triumph. Only when the cheese and ham are conjoined in the midnight sabbat of the Sandwich can one's "belly" be fortified and prepared for the in-rushing Force of the Ale.

On reflection. it would be plainer to say, it's the Aye in the triangle. But we already know that. (The sound of one hand slapping is the great beast laying the law upon the back of your head).

If you cross your eyes,
the A A becomes a single A
and your eye, now single,
opens the central line,
which was asleep.

Sounds weird and portentous;
I think I'll keep it.

I found a site once on A.A. .. something about the 1600's where this group was publicized (the extended name never given) and it was an occult society. Running out now to look for it again. If anyone else has seen it and can get the link up before me it would be welcome. I chanced upon it then and don't think i used a search engine...

AHA! here it is:

http://www.perillos.com/aa.html

(how do I make a working link here?)

This is not the same site I saw, but the same info, more or less.

Had to wade through a few "Alcoholics Anonymous: christian or occult roots?" entries before this came out. 😯

A "typical" translation is Silver Star. (the word "Order" not appearing in any of the words)

The fact that A.C. may have used the letters, is only part of the "truth". I have found, that for me, the A.'.A.'. is far superior to the O.T.O. (Just a personal observation, not intended to be a slur of any kind against the O.T.O. or any other organisation.

The comments that follow may not answer your question. However, they may be helpful in other way. They are as follows:

Consider "The city of the Pyramids"

Consider "The city of the Pyramids"

I'm considering that one Pyramid is Black, One is Blue and Gold and a Third Unmarked has a "Secret Glory," Cthonic, Stellarian and Neither/Neither.

According to Frank Bennet (Fr. Progradior), the last Abbot of Cefalù, the letters meant "Back to the Beginning" . I leave to your own ingenium how this fit in the A.A. initials.

There is Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End. In the A.A. we have Begining and Begining, or something without end, always new, in short alive. Conception comes to mind, and the insuing development of a feutus. A feutus whose birth introduces to the world a True Man able to actually act in accordance to his/her Will. It's about a, a, well perhaps silence is better.

We also have the A-Aleph-OX. A.A. would be two oxen-linked by a YOKE-or YOGA-or as AC repeatedly writes in his essay on the topic: YOGA MEANS "UNION." Achad. Unity. The Eleven as Binary. 2=0. A.A.=Nothing, "Secret Key of this Law" (AL 1:46)

1:47 evokes the Double OX which (as Yoke-Union-Yoga) becomes "none."

When Aiwass says "My prohet is a Fool with his one, one, one-is he indicating "111," a Ciphered Number or the Triangulation of components ala Hegel, a process progressive yet enslaved to endless relativity?

Dialectic dies in the Abyss. Dies in the OX Yoke.

perhaps silence is better.

Perhaps silence isn't even a choice. A "Non-state" which "nought but silence can express." Conceptualizations (and all words-including these) are Hegelian Triangles, stacked atop one another ad infinitum. A.A. Argument Assuaged. The 4th Dimension of a Pyramid found at the heart of the 11th Sephira Whirlpool (Samsara) and BEYOND...

The Unmasking of the Face of God.

A.A. 1 + 1 = 2 = 0.

"Unite by thine art so All disappear."

I think there's something of this in Priest of Al's words above. The Secret of Opening the Eye in the Triangle.

Of course, now I'm thoroughly a Center of Pestilence and we all know that A.A. really means "Argentinum Astrum" and that in no certain terms whatsoever. 😯

93 all the same!

Tee-Hee!

Not only that, but when you bring the Two Triangles together they become sTeReOsCoPiC!

Now, how can you be a Center of Pestilence if it comes out of your own mind? (Whap! "Pay attention!"... "Aye, Sensei!")

The Yoke interpretation of this many faceted diamond is very relevent to a student being yoked to his teacher. This would be the gestation. On a sliding scale the teacher is replaced by one's Will. The students tend in two directions, one seeks to get out of the yoke of his teacher before he is ready. The other will never stand on his own Will, ending up in a symbiotic relationship with the teacher. Both types are mechanical students unable to see what is real. The student who makes efforts to see objectively the real, in himself, others, and in all phenomena, he is in a good place, he is on the path of a Master.

I have a question which I'm hoping someone here may have some insight into:

P.B. Randolph died in 1875, the same year another certain Sex Magician of Notoriety was being born. THAT Magician went on to form the A.A. as a particular system in space-time, embodying the age-old aspiration to the most advanced of human states.

However, in Randolph's Eulis, there is a curious passage where he writes:

"We have left the land of the probable, and are journeying in the regions of the possible. The footprints here and there are of mortals, but of those who have beheld the hidden mysteries of Eulis, who are familiars of the Cabbala, who have raised the veil of Isis, and revealed the Chrishna, the-YAE or the A.A."

I think A.A. could be immediately read as "Affectional Alchemy" but I've always wondered if there was any allusion to a pre-Crowley Order using the same initials. And any insight into the YAE?

(I've done quite a bit of digging and corresponding along the Randolphian Rosicrucian Lines on this one but have never found a satisfactory answer...as R.S. Clymer was one of the "heirs" to the Randolphian line of succession [with its own share of mud-slinging claims to "sole authority," copyright battles and such] I have also found it of interest that in one of HIS books, there is an allusion to the A.A. as a specific ORDER based in America as an offshoot of the (his) Rosicrucian Order. Now Clymer was one odd duck-a bizarre mix of radical conservative patriotism, mystic Christianity and sex magick. He HATED AC and regarded him as "worse than a moral leper" [I'm laughing as I type this] but his critique of the Beast is just utterly erroneous with regards to the facts and the most basic info on Crowley makes it embarassing to read. Still, Randolph is where Clymer's Order began-and I'm quite interested if anyone has documented info regarding an "A.A." that Mr. Randolph may have had connections to).

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

The A ∴ A ∴ is an organization whose heads have obtained by personal experience to the summit of this science. They have founded a system by which everyone can equally attain, and that with an ease and speed which was previously impossible.

All persons whose will is to communicate with the A ∴ A ∴ should apply by letter to the Chancellor of the A ∴ A ∴ :

A lph A

the re-creation of ouroborus (infinite ultimate freedom in continuity) from the *old-school* staff/rod (finite linear discipline)

The A lph A made into a circle becomes also the Omega...

Perhaps it might be worth considering (Comparing) A.A. with A.'.A.'. ?

Just a thought.
