Fatal Altitude: Tragedy On K2, is a National Geographic documentary about the tragic consequences of an expedition that tried to climb K2 in 2008. Despite having modern advantages such as radios, oxygen, and state of the art of equipment, 11 people died nonetheless. Watching the documentary helps put Aleister Crowley's attempt at climbing K2 into perspective. The thing that struck me the most was that once the members had climbed as high as Camp 4, how nearly incapacitated they had become, and how there was simply an overwhelming need to get off the mountain asap, which in my mind justifies Crowley's decision to invoke self-preservation and climb down with no consideration for anyone else.
