A belated obituary (39 years later) by David Dean in the Alpine Journal of 1960, which began as Dean's search for the origins of Eckenstein's fascination with Sir Richard Burton and his superb colleciton of Burtoniana -

This latter also gets as close as we are likely to come to the mystery of the attempt to stop Eckenstein from climbing K2 in 1902.
Has anybody here tried the "Eckenstein Boulder" or have photos of some of the climbs at Wastdale Head?
