On 23 May 2016, I sent a letter to the Chancellor of the A A seeking admittance to the AA as a probationer, but I haven't received a response. (I had sent the letter to an address in the UK. I obtained the address from www.oto-usa.org.) I wonder why I haven't received a response. Is that address valid?

There are various branches which have existed over the years. The lineage that I joined is long gone but you really don't need one, to be honest. The system is designed for the solo practitioner so you could get James Eshelman's 'The Mystical & Magical System Of The A.'.A.'. -the spiritual system of Aleister Crowley & George Cecil Jones step by step' & start from there on your own or with some of us here. It's fun! Just make sure that you're not that busy for a year or so. There is alot of material, & though the work is not exhausting it does require focus.

Hore Mak Het excuse me for disagreeing with you.

I know that the material is for solo focus. But the entirety of the A.:.A.:. is designed for solo practise (yes) but one needs a teacher.

How else does one know that they are making mistakes?

That is EXACTLY why I love the A.:.A.:.; it is all about self study BUT I think no matter how advanced we all think we are, we all have people above us and below us. So it behooves us to 'suck up' the knowledge from above and it really does work. That's how AC designed it.

It truly is very fun.

But it is deadly serious. It is the best system I have ever found to truly improve oneself.

I approached 'magick' from the background of Qi Gong, Daoism and also Hindu Bhakti, and so I know what the importance of a teacher is.

It's not guru worship, it's just like in the A.:.A.:. curriculum, the acceptance that , help is good

🙂

If the A.'. A.'. mentioned is associated with the Caliphornian O.T.O., which judging by the links it certainly is, it obviously belongs to the (Motta) recension currently led by J.D. Gunther. As such it is therefore only one among many and should not be regarded as the A.'. A.'.. (I personally prefer and would recommend a different one, for instance.)

I wonder why I haven’t received a response.
You didn't state whether you'd enclosed a s.a.e. with your letter. Sometimes people (organizations) can be very fussy about this simple politeness and may think that the fact of this omission alone might imply something (detrimental) about the individual's character (e.g., their [lack of] consideration, forethought, etc).

Other than that, it might be that the Cancellarius or whoever it is deals with the post there is just very unprofessional and lazy and untogether and can't be bothered to reply to you within a decent timeframe? Or a missive might have got lost in the mails. So it goes et chacun a son gout...

Nonetheless may good fortune accompany your steps forward in the Great Work & your pathway be guided by the illumination of your HGA.

I'd like to get that book which Horemakhet recommended. Where can I get it for a reasonable price? (The books from Crowley are so expensive). And I'd like to get a teacher too, just in order to guide me to ensure that I'm following the curriculum of the AA correctly. Does anyone know how I can get a teacher?

Please don't misconstrue my intention WildWitch but I think any teacher worth his or her sodium chloride would emphasise the follies of not overmuch spoonfeeding their chela (chelae?), and instead dwell upon the relative virtues of self-reliance, initiative and selective & effective research?!

Are there different Motta lineages ? Who is Euclydes (mentioned by P.R. Koenig) and why do people recommend, prefer other lineages ?

Perhaps your email to them has ended up in a spam folder or the like? Why don't you try emailing them from another email address? I have always found them to be prompt with replies and not lazy or inattentive. So give it a go from another address perhaps.

Jamie I am far from an expert on a lot of things but I have read many a text from Motta and I deplore him.

That said, in no way to my knowledge is James Eshelman any part of that.

The book in question, which I also own: James Eshelman’s ‘The Mystical & Magical System Of The A.’.A.’. -the spiritual system of Aleister Crowley & George Cecil Jones step by step’ While being super good, (and not in any way a replacement for a good teacher, but a good supplement thereto) is not written by anyone who was in Motto's soup, but rather by Eshelman who is in the Southern California OTO and A.:.A.:. , and the copyright states the College of Thelema, which is a great lineage from Soror Estai (Jane Wolfe) who was a student of Crowley who initiated Phyllis Seckler (Soror Meral).

I agree with you when you state that 'self-reliance, initiative and selective & effective research' are a great guide.

The problem is, if you want a teacher, and can't find a teacher one has to travel. So have many done before, and it's definitely worth it.

In the mean time, while you are making your choices (and this is not to sound trite or condescending) , while you are in the bud of your spring time, it is best to use nature and true quiet as your teachers. At least in my personal experience when I was a lone and had no funds nor contacts or friends to help me, the biggest help was my true eager desire and earnest sitting. Just sitting, and also hiking, and truly breathing in nature.

At any rate I am at risk of rambling and I wish you the best of luck, Wildwitch.

Yes there are.at least several - more through him than anybody else post-A.C. I think.

Who is Euclydes (mentioned by P.R. Koenig)
Why not google the guy up!

and why do people recommend, prefer other lineages ?
I can't answer for other people, but for myself it's because like with another organization maybe some of the others don't tend to bang on about being the Only True One. (If anyone really wants to know which one I 'prefer and recommend', I have mentioned it previously on Lashtal but am not going to do so again at this point - though I've just tried to Search for it again myself and found it within the space of a couple of minutes.)

Perhaps your email to them has ended up in a spam folder or the like? Why don’t you try emailing them from another email address?
However didn't WildWitch explicitly say he'd written them a letter rather than an email? (Hence my remark about [not] having enclosed a stamped addressed envelope?)

This seems a bit extreme, Chris! Do you not think he had anything of worth to say textually?

My apologies regarding the email. The OP did indeed say he's sent a letter. My advice would be to then send an email.

I received an e-mail in regard to this posting. I was advised to do a few things in the e-mail. I will do what I've been advised to do, but I want to check a few things out first. I thank whomever sent that e-mail to me.
