This from a good friend:

Can you remember the name of that UK-made 1940s horror film which has paintings by AC in it? It was filmed in Netherwood partially... you can see some of AC's paintings on the wall. It is available on DVD but I forget the title!

For some reason I keep thinking of Boris Karloff in The Black Cat but I don't think that's right. Can anyone help?

I found this reference, sounds like the one. 🙂

A painting of Aleisters-'Cuboid', is featured in the film 'Fall of the House of Usher which was filmed at Netherwood, Ashburnam Place and catacombs and cellars below a demolished Grange on The Ridge, Hastings.

The films director, George Barnett became intrigued by Crowley saying he was a quiet charming man, knowing nothing of his wicked reputation at the time! Georges son Adrian still resides in Hastings.

the IMDb ( internet Movie Database ) list Ivan Barnett as director.

User comment on IMDb.....

I bought (for £22) a standard 8 sound copy of this film and showed it at a meeting of Group 9.5. We attempt to show films that are not normally shown on TV, so this was a rare opportunity for the members to see this British version. Graham Murray was at the show and told me why it doesn't appear on TV in the UK. He worked for Granada TV and was on the panel that rejected the film as being too poor to show on TV-but he bravely sat through the show that night. Despite the rather crude technical quality of the film,I liked it.
