I'll be moving to San Diego in the fall, and I'll want to continue my occult studies there.
I was wondering if there were any A'.'A'.' branches that operate nearby, or if the LA OTO bodies are good enough for the commute.

93,

I dont really knw how to respond to these type of posts but let me make a few points

1) Do you really think an A A branch will watch LAShTAL waiting for people like you to inquire? Do you know you dont need to neccessarily live right next to an 'A A branch'? Do you know there are multiple lineages?
2) Why would an LA OTO be 'good enough for the commute' since the work of OTO and A A are largely unrelated, one being largely social the other largely personal.
3) Why dont you look on some websites or e-mail people in the A A if you are interested?
4) There are several groups of Thelemites in San Diego and a Camp-in-formation if I understand correctly... chances are there are members of A A around any major city.

The LA OTO groups I don't know much about but the San Fran/Berkely lodges are awesome.

Why are you assuming that the o/p may not have already done that?

93 Freeman,

The nearest OTO body to San Diego is Golden Lotus Oasis in Orange County. Depending on where in San Diego County you will be, it is about 1-1.5 hours away. We are also forming a new group in San Diego and can put you in touch with them.

And yes, there are also legitimate A.'. A.'. contacts here (not a "branch" or "lineage").

Man. My last experience with the A.A. revolved around being told that demons and bad shit were coming for me, and that I should pay attention to everything that was told to me lest I fall pray. To top it off I was accused of stealing a circle or 'ring' that was legitamately given to me by the head of our circle when I was asked to skry the thing. I was told there were all sorts of battles going on, and I responded with my own brand of mental head fuck. One good turn deserves another. It was interesting, but I didn't learn anything except to stay away from magickal orders. 🙂

Had similar experiences myself. 😛 I was given a tarot reading by my superior who tld me my then lover was magickally attacking me because a Sword card showed up in the reading. I was told to run like a bat out of hell if she was pregnant (which was something we had been trying to accomplish). Later I saw him give a similar reading to another aspirant of the A.'.A.'. I didn't think too much of it at the time, though I disregarded it personally. It was a year later I realized I had contacted a fallen aspirant to the A.'.A.'., someone who had failed his initiatic ordeals and was not what he claimed.

Where were you involved at?

Don`t give up, shop around for a good community, took me years to find just the right mix/group of people. In the end its worth it. Theres a lot of strange fruit out there , warning signs are demands of money, obedience, sex, secrecy - just for starters. Also I know more than you types, or I am so powerful types. Don`t give up! 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement mate:-) I think I'll do that. It's not good to be a solitary magickian for too long.

Reading the above posts, I thought the following quote might be appropriate.

"Since its establishment, the many, whose name is legion, have sought to profit by the reputation of the A.'. A.'., and some have been deceived thereby. How can one tell the false from the True? The principles of the Order of the A.'. A.'. are clear and unequivocal; those who act in a manner contrary to them are automatically excluded from its fold. It requires no oaths of secrecy, or vows of obedience to any individual. No money is ever requested when its teachings are dispensed or when an attainment is recognized by its Authority. The Order does not operate in lodges, campuses, lecture circles or groups of any kind."

"Praemonstrance," in "The Equinox, IV: 1: Commentaries on the Holy Books," p. x (York Beach: Samuel Weiser, 1996).

Iskander, an excellent quote but not totally true. It is an ideal that didn't even exist in Crowley's day and part of why he started to emphasize the OTO so much, to establish that fraternal interaction without damaging the work of the A.'.A.'. aspirant. AC even exercised the use of Oaths of Holy Obedience with Victor Neuberg. The Rites of Eleusis are another example of the A.'.A.'. working counter to AC's writings along with the initiation rites of the A.'.A.'. which are temple and group ceremonies.

Oftentimes in my experience the area that an A.'.A.'. instructor lives in results in a group of his pupils forming a small clique and knowing one another. Motta for instance, when he came to America had a weekly session for pathworkings where he would lead his students on an astral projection, both Menthu Lodge members & those who were purely A.'.A.'. Now how this is in accord with the A.'.A.'. principle of no groups etc. is that these are not chartered lodges, temples, schools or officially sponsored lecture groups but a loose gathering of aspirants. The practicality of one only knowing who one has admitted and who they were admitted by doesn't always work on a local scale.

I believe the Equinox editors have worked out a way to avoid these occurences and we will see how it plays out over the next twenty years but I find the idea of the A.'.A.'. being executed as envisioned by Crowley to be very exciting!

Is it not true that each flower absorbs the sunlight individually for sustenance and each flower has no no pertinant influence upon another. Look deeper into the ether! Those others vie for your position in the light. Take no notice of them and knuckle down to long term growing. Its hard work but you'll get there eventually. Enjoy the garden.

I want to place this context and not abuse the trust of anyone nor make someone suffer more than... well perhaps just more is the word. I want you to understand that sometimes initiates may become unbalanced in the 5=6. Crowley said that some experiences needed a good friend and a strong brandy, but he stopped short, and everyone who has been through such an initiation with the highest dyhana's knows why. Enlightenment can come as a spiritual initiation - which is basically what the 5=6 is about - or it can be the outcome of the abyss. I don't want to mince words here. The grade of magister templi is conveyed through - in my own words - being kicked out of the abyss knowing that *you* are nothing but tempory space cake and are thankful for it and compltely obidient to the HGA. I meet some MT's for whom understanding is not enough. For them there is the prospect of Kairos - which is one of the 3 rays of the true will (simply put). We do as we do without understanding Kairos but in total trust of our true nature at the time.

Now if that sounds too much like 'faith' I'd like you to play a few 45's. There are two horses to ride and only one leg goes across the white one. But she is mine (so I am hers). Ride at the right time for Horus and to Kairos - the twinned messengers.

Hmmm. On this level it looks like ..*!TS*!. but what paradigm were you using?! :-))))
It saved my life.

I'm basically saying that I was looking at a non standard, non proper A.:A,: bloke for a while no matter what he claimed, or what lineage. That should cover it - goodnight y'all (that was my best mericaneese!). xXx
