I just opened 'outside the circles of time' randomly...
The pages fell between pg.92 and 93...
My eyes fell on the last paragraph about the 'progression of the aeons' and the significance of the number 7.
7 periods, 7 x 7 =49, Venus
As Kenneth Grant mentions, this progression of aeons is made up of a subtle thread which is woven through the visions of magickal experiences that take place through different oracles...
Does this mean that...
Keep up the Great Work
P.S. May you all find your EGG, in the desert, under a palm tree and under a Venusian sun
The experience of magickal aeons is personal thing. You work at your own pace with them. Magickal aeons are beyond human perception of time. Aka : "Outside The Circles of Time". Grant was only relating his own experience and how that fits in, in the scheme of things in his magickal universe. It wouldnt apply to you, since your own experience and understanding of the Aeons would be different.
Indeed, hence his comment on these aeons as being like a thread...continuous. However, 'moments', like 'kalpas' do upsurge now and again i.e. specific visions, transmissions or paramparas..and when they do... 7 seems to be the number which precipitates or crystallises quite regularly in the mysteries?
What I mean, even though such transmissions occur on a platter 'outside' space and time. The reification or rendering of such transmissions into 'flesh' occur in these cycles of 7.
Much food for observation, reflection, thought, study and experiment here. There are indeed not only the apparently 'subjective aspects' but the 'objective' too - without wanting to over-reify an otherwise useful distinction and obscure the fact that these terms might be better considered two conceptual isolates of one 'object'. For example, the biological seven-year cycle of the complete renewal of the cells in the human body, 7 14 21 28 35 42 & 49 etc; the impact of the Saturn return phenomenon postulated by astrologers every 28 years and the alleged increased potential for transformation at the 14 year point in the cycle; the 84 year Uranus cycle....etc
All the best....
I wonder how those dates (or others using a 7-year increment) might relate to the changes in popular taste toward music. One might be able to detect "a subtle thread which is woven through the visions" that way. The oracles in question (at least toward music) might be whatever life-altering events occurred at the time... but I'm not sure if that's an accurate use of the word "oracle," so I must resort to poetry. 🙂
Throw the runes of the times
And let our visions bloom
Of what our visions mean
Until, exhausted upon our airy ride,
New runes we throw
To speed us to a new demise.
I seem to remember reading somewhere ('scuse being so vague), that Jung linked '7' with evolution. It is a common time period in fairy tales for the completion of a curse, or length of a pact before some change is effected.
Not a Jung scholar but recall that he saw numbers as archetypes, dynamic aspects of the unconscious, and linked the number seven with psychological or psychic transformation. As there are seven stages in some alchemical accounts of transformation, I think Jung had seven stages symbolising the process of psychological transformation. Some Jungians talk about seven ideas identified by Jung as facilitating higher consciousness on the path to integration. Perhaps this is the evolutionary context, the evolution of consciousness, but beyond that I can't pretend to any deeper understanding of it - maybe Jung has written something more directly about the application of the seven stages more directly to evolution in a more general 'Darwinian' sense but I am just not well enough acquainted with his work.
All the best....
Talking as an acupuncturist, and Huang Ti's, Yellow Emperors Classic of Internal Medicine, 7 and 8 year cycles occur both in women and men respectively. In this respect, our physiology 'must' be significant to a degree as an anchor to oracular forces that are 'outside the circles of time'?
