This is old news. The music biz was different and less organized in those days and Led Zep and Page probably felt that nicking an idea off some old blues track or folk artist was fair use or at most a bit cheeky. While they sometimes failed to attribute credit many of these cases have been settled in court long ago.

Much about this here:

Stairway To Heaven is completely original. The intro is inspired by the Taurus track but that isn't plagiarism. Different chords and everything. Artists inspire each other all the time.

You can't copyright a chord progression and Stairway To Heaven is quite different anyways.

When you nick lyrics and chords together is when you get in trouble. Hence the many lawsuits and settlements over the years.

Do What Thou Wilt! Nick now pay later!

The Spirit track sounds a bity like "Michelle" by The Beatles lol. I agree that Pagey probably did not consciously copy that intro.

The news isn’t interesting but nice to hear the music next to each other .
“Good artists copy; great artists steal.” - Pablo Picasso
copy right laws for music don’t consider the drummer
who conducts marks and leads the music
Ginger Baker got no credit

yes a lot of quotes to that affect: 'being a great musician is knowing how to steal without getting caught' 😀
I steal from Jimmy chamberlin, Mitch Mitchell, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Danny carey, max roach, abe cunningham for the most part. The harder part is making it your own. Just like even harder than playing a hard part on guitar or drums etc, is actually writing an original part that is just as awesome. Imagination/creativity > technical skill. Too many coverstars on Youtube these days.

Crowley stole from Daoism, Sufiism, Egyptian religion, Christianity and made his own 'music' too.
