    Am I wrong to assume that American presidents used to be real statesmen?

    The last two Republican Presidents have been not-very-smart rich kids who failed at everything in life, and were bailed out over and over by dad’s reputation and money. Both evaded the Viet Nam era draft through family money and connections; each was/is eager to risk the lives of young Americans in combat.

    The last two Democratic Presidents have been people of very modest background, who were respectively, a Rhodes Scholar who then went to Yale Law School, and a Harvard Law grad who was editor of the law review (the most prestigious thing a law student can do is be editor of the school’s law review; i was a mere staff member on mine). One of them, as you may have heard, had the audacity to be black, which the current President considers unforgivable (thus his efforts to reverse every single thing the black guy did, regardless of how little sense this may make in any given case).

    Both the Democratic Presidents mentioned became President by winning the majority of the popular vote; both of the Republicans became President despite their Democratic opponents winning the majority of the popular vote.

    Any conclusions that might be drawn from the above facts are left as an exercise for the reader.

    I’m a Canadian. I haven’t lived there since 1992, however, and haven’t visited since 2006.

    I have lived in France since 2001, and became a French citizen in 2007.

    Well yeah I was thinking more pre-Carter presidents going way back to Lincoln.

    Eh? Black like Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell? Yes he was certainly more statesman-like but you don’t think Obama’s foreign policy left the world in a more dangerous place?

    Ok, the last two “pre-Carter” Republican Presidents were Ford, who was not elected and was often said to have played football with his helmet off one time too many, and the noted war criminal and straight-up criminal criminal Dick Nixon.

    The last two “pre-Carter” Democratic presidents were Johnson (Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Medicare/Medicaid, but on the other hand Viet Nam) and JFK (shot before he did much).

    Any of these folks are certainly head and shoulders over Bush the Younger, or Duh Fuehrer, in intellect, and “statesmanlike-ness”. Some of them even read books, if you can imagine (actually GWB was known to read).

    As to your imagined clever gotcha in pointing out that Bush the Younger had two black Secretaries of State: 1) Secretary of State is not remotely the same as President; 3) the Bush and Trump crime families hate each other. I would not characterize GWB as a a racist but rather as a beneficiary of racism; Trump is clearly very very racist, and has been as long as he has been a public figure (like his dad, arrested at a KKK rally).

    Obama’s foreign policy left the world in a more dangerous place

    Perhaps you’d care to give an example or two here? I don’t think that is a very widely held opinion outside extreme-right circles.

    Hey you’ve erased Reagan from history.

    The crime of lying about employing the secret police to snoop at the Democrat’s future campaign details? The initial crime was just so …pointless.

    The last two “pre-Carter” Democratic presidents were Johnson (Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Medicare/Medicaid, but on the other hand Viet Nam) and JFK (shot before he did much).

    Yeah what did JFK do?

    As to your imagined clever gotcha in pointing out that Bush the Younger had two black Secretaries of State: 1) Secretary of State is not remotely the same as President;

    It wasn’t a ‘gotcha’ Ignant. I never baited you. You brought race into it.

    Trump is racist? What about Reagen? Do you mean trickle-down economic racism as in indirect racism because minorities predominate the classes who suffer when a socialist welfare state does not exist?

    Well. Sometimes you have to threaten a bully. You know that.

    If we can’t socialize the losses and spread the risk onto the masses;
    we can always tax them to get hooked on a nanny state sponsored market.
    Either way things can be risk managed and rigged;
    so that the voter is eager to vote for their own demise.
    Oh and don’t get on that unregulated market ship that’s being built; with everyone else.
    And always have the life jacket that passed quality control, handy.
    And know your boom and bust cycles .

    No, ignant666 stated “pre-Carter”.

    Yeah what did JFK do?

    At the time of the Cuban missile crisis, Kennedy stood up to his generals, who were pressing for a firm military response which would probably have triggered World War III. Later, it was Kennedy who laid the basis for the Civil Rights legislation which was subsequently developed by Johnson; it decimated the Democrat power-base in the Southern States, but was clearly the right thing to do. It was Kennedy who “nationalised” the Alabama guard in order to enforce the right of black students to take their rightful place at college, in the face of bitter opposition by the then-governor of Alabama, Wallace. Kennedy did quite a lot. That’s not to say that he didn’t have character flaws, and didn’t do some shady, abusive things. But he did some positive things.

    Reagan was not a “pre-Carter president”- Carter was President before Reagan. You said

    Yes, that kind, and then the old-fashioned kind where you hate and fear persons with dark skin.

    Some of his “Greatest Racist Hits”: Getting fined for refusing to rent to black folks in NYC back when he hadn’t yet pissed away the real estate empire he inherited, taking out a full-page ad in the NY Times to demand the death penalty for four black teenagers we now know were innocent, the racist claim that Obama was somehow not a US citizen despite being born in the US to a US citizen mother, discussing (as President) “shithole countries” in Africa, his lawless and un-American immigration and refugee policies, really i could go on for days here.

    The People want accountability in an Age screaming for Change;
    not more of the same.
    They don’t want a system that socializes the losses and privatizes the gains.
    Neither do they want a nanny state in which the plutocracy can peddle their wares.
    People don’t want obsequious food stamps and hand outs.
    They want a living wage free from taxation and peer-to-peer swarming.
    good luck.
    🙂

    Trump is paranoid of puritanical Muslim culture sure but this idea that he genuinely has it in for negroes per se just smacks of silly Democrat propaganda and political character assassination. I don’t know, What other evidence is there?

    From three very mainstream sources that can’t easily be accused of “silly Democrat propaganda and political character assassination”:
