whatever really happened (to anybody) is mashed, managled, and manipulated by really bad researchers.

Agreed, and the danger is that once it’s in print it is regarded as accurate by (some of) those coming afterwards, who may then perpetuate it themselves, and so on and so forth with – as with ‘chinese whispers’ – any semblance of truth in it degraded still further by repetition.

This is a problem in all conversation and now with internet it has become a problem of repetition ad infinitum.

Thankfully AC has had some very good biographers who have researched and referenced the events of his life with painstaking detail. But to this day when AC’s name comes up I hear friends saying Satanist as the first word that comes to mind.

Incidentally, Wikileaks recently sent out a document listing “140 things you can’t say about Julian Assange” to combat the false statements about him.

    archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20190107145626/https://pastelink.net/m69m

Included in the list are things like:

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange has ever been charged with, or committed, an offence in the United Kingdom.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange has ever “breached his bail”, “jumped bail”, absconded, fled an arrest warrant, or that he has ever been charged with such at any time.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange has a sentence to serve or has ever avoided serving a sentence.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is not an Australian citizen.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is a “hacker”.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is “far right”.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is a racist.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is a paedophile.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is a rapist.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is a murderer.

It is false and defamatory to suggest that Julian Assange is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

    etc.

The idea being that if Wikileaks addresses each of these statements in advance and declares them false that they can then file suit and get retractions or settlements.

AC’s problem is compounded by that fact that he didn’t seem to give a rats ass what people said and his life was well lived and he came in contact with so many people and generated so much bad press and slander and rumors during his lifetime. AND he’s been dead over 70 years. From what I understand he did not care much to combat the false and defamatory statements about him (child sacrifice for one) and instead chose to make a very dry comment in one of his more serious books (MITAP?) that he sacrifices 150 some odd children per year (he must of thought this was quite funny and ridiculous at the time but it has come back to haunt his legacy as it appears no one got the joke or thought it was funny except a small few.)

A long list of AC’s myths and facts may be in order. Something that researchers and biographers could all agree upon and edit. And something that hack writers could reference. The only problem being (for those protective of AC’s legacy) that it would have to be neutral and also include the long list of disturbing acts/events AC did in fact partake in. Lulz!
