Does anybody happen to have any background or explanatory information on Liber Porta Lucis? More specifically, did Crowley ever expand on his reasons for considering it a "Holy Book of Thelema"? I think it's a beautiful little treatise and I can see how it would serve as a good introduction for the path of initiation within the A.'.A.'., but I don't see any real connection to the innovations of Liber Legis.

Cheers,
Tao

Gee-wiz, as in "G-Wizard," I was just searching for a copy of Porta Lucis for possible quotation in the occult-revealed booklette under construction, titled 5D, and I found this unanswered, unreplied-to thread.

I don't have a copy of Porta Lucis in my digital collection. I don't have a hard copy collection any more. What to do. Search - then end up here.

I was under the impression it dealt with Dominus Liminis and the Paroketh enigma, which I what I'm looking for. We'll see - after I download and review the test.

A Class A Publication is an indication that, according to the subjective opinion of the scribe, comes from a "higher source" and it is not to be altered, not one letter, as an after thought. Think fill/kill.

In other words of a simple nature: It was "channeled." That's all. There is no requirement for it to be specifically related to AL, or Thelema. It's a pleasure to read Crowley when he's dealing with subjects by shooting from the hip ("channeling" or just being really straight) without running on about sex, the Ordo Templi secrets, The Beast and his naughty woman who disturbs the absolute zero.

Oh, yeah, I remember this one. It's a pre-Therion epistle, coming our way courtesy of V.V.V.V.V., the "Light of the World," himself, who wants us to know ...

"This is the nature of the Work."

Comment: Oh, here we go. This is the official, channeled, Class A description of the Work, not to be altered (etd), the subject of which came up recently on the headlining Balenciaga thread.

"First, there are many and diverse conditions of life upon this earth. In all of these is some seed of sorrow. Who can escape from sickness and from old age and from death?"

Comment: Are you (anyone) reminded of the primary tenet of Buddhism?

"We are come to save our fellows from these things."

Comment: Hmmm. The Bodhisattva announces his arrival? Yes, that is mostly what Porta Lucis is about.

"Even as a man ascending a steep mountain is lost to sight of his friends in the valley, so must the adept seem. They shall say: He is lost in the clouds."

Comment: They shall say, "He is crazy.|

"We shall bring you to Absolute Truth, Absolute Light, Absolute Bliss. Many adepts throughout the ages have sought to do this; but their words have been perverted by their successors, and again and again the Veil has fallen upon the Holy of Holies."

Comment: Well, yeah, we;re up on our observation of degradation over time ... in all things. Anicca, annica - Everything Passes Away.

"To you who yet wander in the Court of the Profane we cannot yet reveal all; but you will easily understand that the religions of the world are but symbols and veils of the Absolute Truth. So also are the philosophies. To the adept, seeing all these things from above, there seems nothing to choose between Buddha and Mohammed, between Atheism and Theism.

Comment: Ooh, this is a far out doc. Nothing to choose between Christianity and Thelema? From above, yeah.

"Even as wood and coal and iron burn up together in one great flame, if only that furnace be of transcendent heat; so in the alembic of this spiritual alchemy, if only the zelator blow sufficiently upon his furnace all the systems of earth are consumed in the One Knowledge."

Comment: How cool! I shall select this sentence for quotation. A letter or two may get changed.

Porta Lucis is only 22 short paragraphs long. I recommend it. You can get a copy here ...
